Bolton Wins Paralympic Gold; Three Buffs Represent U.S. In Milano-Cortina

MILANO-CORTINA, Italy – Three athletes with ties to the University of Colorado Boulder competed on the world's biggest stage at the 2026 Paralympic Winter Games in Milano-Cortina, Italy, highlighted by Brett Bolton helping Team USA capture its fifth straight Paralympic gold medal in para ice hockey.
Bolton, a sophomore at CU, played a key role in the United States' championship run. Over the course of the tournament, he totaled four goals and one assist for five points, while firing 17 shots on goal as the Americans once again stood atop the Paralympic podium.
Two additional athletes with CU Boulder ties competed in para-alpine skiing, with Kyle Taulman and Spencer Wood representing the United States in multiple alpine skiing events during the Games.
Taulman competed in the men's sitting slalom, but did not finish his opening run. The race was impacted by challenging conditions after nearly a foot of overnight snow forced organizers to delay the event by an hour while crews worked to clear the course. The heavy snow and reduced visibility created difficult racing conditions throughout the competition.
Wood competed in the standing classification, racing in five alpine events. His best finish came in the alpine combined, where he placed eighth. Wood also recorded a 10th-place finish in a Super-G speed event, while placing 14th in the downhill and 18th in the Super-G. He did not finish the giant slalom or slalom races.
