Colorado hosts Big 12 weekend with two Utah matchups
BOULDER – The No. 56 Colorado Buffaloes tennis team heads home for another packed week of Big 12 competition, hosting No. 53 BYU on Thursday and No. 44 Utah on Saturday.
Colorado dropped two conference matchups this past week, falling 4-1 to then-No. 20 UCF and 4-0 to then-No. 36 Houston.
Junior Pia Rebec also finds herself in the rankings for singles this week, sitting at No. 120. Rebec has an 18-8 record this season, primarily holding the No. 3 spot for the Buffs. Rebec is the first Buff to be ranked in singles since Aya El Sayed in 2024.
"Our team is very excited to be back home this weekend," said head coach Anthony Pham. "We understand that with seven matches left in the conference season, every match holds a great deal of importance, so we will control what we can and put our best foot forward."
This week, the Buffs begin with a match-up against BYU, posting a 3-21 all-time series record against the Cougars. Colorado will look to secure its first victory against BYU since 2021, a 4-1 nonconference win in Boulder.
BYU currently holds a 13-4 overall record and a 2-3 conference record this season. The Cougars found two Big 12 victories, downing Cincinnati, 4-3, and West Virginia, 4-2.
The Cougars have one ranked doubles pair, No. 61 Grace Levelston and Kendall Kovick, who currently hold a 9-1 record.
Against Utah, the Buffs hold a 14-24 record, with the last matchup resulting in a 4-3 finish for the Utes in 2025. The last victory for Colorado came in 2021, with a 4-1 win at home.
The Utes are 10-5 overall and 3-2 in conference this season. Utah found a win over BYU earlier this season, along with a 4-0 sweep over West Virginia and a 4-1 finish against Cincinnati.
Utah has found a ranked position in singles, courtesy of No. 121 Emma Kamper, notching a near-perfect 11-1 record this season.
"We know we can put ourselves in a position to have success," said Pham. "Both BYU and Utah are great teams, and we look forward to taking advantage of those opportunities this weekend."
The match against BYU will begin on Thursday at Noon (M.T.). followed by a 1 p.m. start against Utah on Saturday. More information and live results can be found @cubuffstennis.
