Tennis Buffs Ready to Face Texas Tech
March 26, 2026 | Tennis
BOULDER – The No. 61 Colorado Buffaloes tennis team is set for a short weekend of competition, facing No. 30 Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas, on Saturday.
This past week, Colorado dropped two close matches to BYU and Utah at home. The Buffs fell 4-2 to both Utah teams, closing out their last home matches until April.
"We knew going into the Big 12 season that every match would be close," said head coach Anthony Pham, "Every team is good, and whether we win or lose, we know it just comes down to a handful of points. Our team has done a good job of fighting to the end. That's a characteristic of our program, that we compete hard. We've got a resilient group, we'll go out there and fight, and put ourselves in the best position we can."
Despite two losses, the Buffs have found success this season with 10 wins, already eclipsing last season's total and tying last season's Big 12 win total. After coming in ranked this week at No. 61, that marks the fifth time this season ranked by the ITA. This is only the third time in the last 10 years the Buffs have been ranked at least five times in a season.
On Saturday, Colorado faces Texas Tech in its sole match of the week, before heading into the final stretch of Big 12 play.
"We've unfortunately had some injuries, but I think every team is dealing with that this time of year," said Pham, "Yukiko [Ikedo] and Heidi [Crncan] have done a really good job of stepping up and being prepared. We're going to keep doing what we can do and control. We know Texas Tech is a good team, but we're confident in our group."
The Buffs lead a 16-10 series against the Red Raiders, with the last three matchups ending in favor of Texas Tech. Last season, Colorado fell 4-0 at home, marking the 26th meeting since the first matchup in 1980.
The Red Raiders hold a 13-7 overall record and a 4-4 mark in the Big 12. Texas Tech has found three ranked victories this season, downing No. 60 GCU, No. 37 Iowa, and No. 36 Houston.
Texas Tech homes one ranked doubles pairing, No. 38 Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy, who currently hold a 15-4 record this season.
Last season, the Red Raiders won the Big 12 Championship, downing UCF in a 4-2 final after a three-way tie for first in regular season play.
"It just goes back to just controlling what we can control," said Pham, "Our energy, our attitude, the way we approach these matches. It just boils down to a couple of points, and we have to do a better job of making sure we get off to better starts and taking advantage of the opportunities when we create them."
Competition will begin at 11 a.m. (M.T.) at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock, Texas. More information and live results can be found @cubuffstennis.
