Buffs Roll Past UC Davis

April 19, 2026 | Lacrosse

BOULDER – No. 16 Colorado women's lacrosse (11-3, 3-1 Big 12) defeated UC Davis (7-7, 2-2 Big 12), 13-6, Sunday afternoon at UC Davis Health Stadium to extend its winning streak to four games.

"It was a big opportunity for us today, playing UC Davis," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden said. "Every game for us matters. Every conference game is so important as we get down this stretch, and we're hoping to extend our season into May. I'm proud of the team. I thought we came out and we fought a lot for second chances, ground balls. We did pretty well on the draw [control], controlling possession at times. I'm proud of the little things that we brought today, and a good win for this group."

Senior attacker Maddie Shoup and senior midfielder Lily Assini led the game with four goals apiece. Both players recorded a hat trick in the first half to help grow the early lead. Junior attacker Teagan Ryan added two goals of her own. The other three goals were scored by Averi Gardner, Jaimey Hill, and Rachel Kennedy.

Sophomore goalkeeper Elena Oh had five saves, including two in free positions.

Colorado took an early 5-1 lead early in the second quarter, but UC Davis found the back of the net with two of its own to close the gap to 5-3 with five minutes left in the first half. The Buffs responded with four goals in three minutes and 40 seconds of game time. Three came in the final 2:04 in the first half and the final 1:36 into the third quarter to take a 9-3 lead and have control the rest of the way.

"I think we were working for good opportunities on the offensive end," Whidden commented. "Possession matters, and when we're able to win the draw controls and be clean in transition, it gives us those extra possessions. When we're able to execute down there and take good opportunities, a lot of good things happen, and I thought we were able to do that."

Colorado had more draw controls (15-6), groundballs (17-11), and shots on goal (25-11) than UC Davis.

How It Happened
Colorado got the scoring started early with Hill finding the back of the net to take an early 1-0 lead just 1:09 into the game.

After UC Davis tied the game, the Buffs rattled off four straight goals with two apiece from Assini and Shoup over 16 minutes from the end of the first quarter into the second.

The Aggies put down two goals to cut the Buffs' lead to 5-3 as the opening half came to a close. Assini and Shoup responded with each scoring another goal to extend the lead, as well as both getting a hat trick. Kennedy snuck one in with only 16 seconds left to give Colorado an 8-3 lead at the half.

The second half started with an early goal from Ryan to push the lead to 9-3. UC Davis outscored the Buffs 3-1 the rest of the quarter with Shoup scoring the only goal, bringing the score to 10-6 heading to the fourth quarter.

In the final quarter, the Buffs scored three goals to ice the game. Assini, Gardner, and Ryan finished it off for Colorado with a goal apiece.
