BOULDER – The Colorado volleyball team has signed transfer rising junior defensive specialist/libero Tinons Munar Galmés (Majorca, Spain/IES Antonio Machado) from Washington State, head coach Jesse Mahoney announced on Thursday, May 7.
A 2025 All-WCC honorable mention, Munar Galmés played in all 28 matches (100 sets) in the 2025 season, totaling 332 digs, 100 assists, and 35 aces. Her 332 digs led the team and were good for eighth in the WCC. She had double-digit digs 19 times, including 20 or more digs in back-to-back matches – 21 versus Loyola Marymount (Oct. 18) and 24 at San Diego (Oct. 25).
"We are thrilled to welcome Tinons to Boulder," head coach Jesse Mahoney stated. "As a two-year starter in the NCAA and with her extensive experience in the Spanish National Team pipeline, she will impact our program immediately."
Munar Galmés notched two assist-dig double-doubles last season. The first came versus Dayton in nonconference play where she totaled 12 assists and 13 digs (Aug. 30), while the second came at Oregon State with 10 assists and 10 digs (Nov. 2). She also had at least one ace in 18 matches, as well as earning a career-high six aces at Seattle U (Oct. 2), tied for fourth-most all time at WSU in a single match, and second in program history in a 3-set match.
Prior to her time at WSU, Munar Galmés was the libero for Florida A&M as a freshman. She played in 31 matches and 103 sets while leading the team with 434 digs and 4.21 digs per set. She was also named All-SWAC Second Team and SWAC All-Tournament and was a three-time SWAC Defensive Player of the Week. She finished the 2024 season with 88 assists and 36 service aces. Munar Galmés has also spent time with the Spanish national team, where she was the top libero in WEVZA U-18 with 417 digs in 92 sets.
The 2026 Big 12 Colorado volleyball season begins on Sept. 25 against Utah at CU Events Center, as the Buffs look to build off last year's NCAA Second Round appearance. CU will also play a competitive nonconference slate in late August and September, to be announced at a later date. This year, the Buffs are also celebrating 40 years of Colorado Volleyball, with a commemorative logo, a new wall of honor, and reunions announced at the end of last month.
Under head coach Jesse Mahoney, Colorado finished the 2025 season 23-9 and went 12-6 against Big 12 opponents. Coach Mahoney has led the Buffs to a 164-135 record in his 10 seasons at the helm. Last year, the Buffs made their 22nd appearance in the NCAA tournament, sweeping American in the first round before falling to four-seed Indiana in the second round, CU's 12th second round appearance in program history. Colorado had 23 wins last season, marking the program's 13th 20-win season, its first since 2022, while also setting marks for the most wins in a season since 2017 and tied for the third-most wins in a season in program history.
