June 29, 2026 | Women's Basketball

ATLANTA – Former Colorado guard Jaylyn Sherrod signed a developmental contract with the Atlanta Dream on Monday afternoon (June 29).

Developmental contracts in the WNBA allow teams to carry up to two additional players outside the 12-player active roster and salary cap. These players participate in all team practices and travel, and they can only be activated for a maximum of 12 regular-season games.

Sherrod, who is Colorado's all-time leader in games started with 133, was a standout for the Buffs from 2019-2024, leading CU to back-to-back NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearances her junior and senior years. In those two seasons she also earned All-Pac-12 honors and in 2024 was a WBCA and AP All-America Honorable Mention.

Following her Colorado career, Sherrod became the first former Buffalo to win a WNBA championship, helping the New York Liberty capture the 2024 title during her rookie season. After joining the team on a training camp contract and later a seven-day deal, she earned a permanent roster spot and contributed to the Liberty's championship run. Sherrod returned to New York in 2025 before being acquired by the Minnesota Lynx later that season, where she has continued to make an impact as a versatile two-way guard.

Through her first two WNBA seasons, Sherrod appeared in 36 regular-season games with the New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx, averaging 1.4 points, 0.5 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 0.5 steals in 5.2 minutes per game. She has totaled 52 points, 18 rebounds, 17 assists and 14 steals while shooting 35.7% from the field. Although her offensive opportunities have been limited, Sherrod has earned a reputation as a high-energy, defense-first guard whose relentless on-ball pressure, toughness and versatility have helped her carve out a role on championship-caliber rosters.

Sherrod wrapped up her five-year career in Boulder, averaging a career-high of 12.8 points and matching her career-high with 5.1 assists per game. She also averaged career-highs in field goals made (4.4), field goal percentage (44.5) and free throw percentage (76.4). Sherrod scored in double figures 21 times in the 2023-24 season, including three games of 20 or more. She also had at least one steal in 30 games.

Sherrod ranked third in the Pac-12 in total assists (172) and second in assists per game in her final season. An All-Pac-12 and All-Defensive Team selection, she was also fourth in steals (73) and steals per game (2.15). She earned Pac-12 Player of the Week and numerous National Player of the Week honors after recording a career-high 34 points against then-No. 12 Utah. Sherrod tallied 436 points on that season, 58 more than her previous career best.

The 2024 Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year started all 34 games for CU and became the Buffs' all-time leader in career starts (133). Sherrod also dished out a career-high 13 assists against UT Arlington and had five or more assists in 16 games. She handed out a career-high 172 assists, notching her third season with 150-plus. Her 645 career assists are second all-time behind Kennedy Leonard's 664.

Her star burned the brightest in the most significant moments. Over her career, Sherrod averaged 11.9 points and 4.0 assists in 44 career games against ranked opponents. She was at her best again in the 2023-24 season in the spotlight, averaging 16.4 points and 4.4 assists in 14 games against top 25 opponents.

Sherrod led the Buffs in assists 95 times in her career. She twice had 10 or more assists in a game this season and handed out double-digit helpers five times in her career. She led the team in scoring 28 times and recorded 11 games with 20 or more points. She finished her career with two double-doubles, all of the points and assists variety.

The guard became the third Buff in program history to record over 1,000 points (1,483) and 600 assists in her career.
