Tragarz Named CSC Academic All-American

July 14, 2026 | Track and Field

BOULDER — Colorado's Danny Tragarz has been named a second-team Academic All-American by College Sports Communicators, the organization announced Tuesday, recognizing the nation's top track & field and cross country student-athletes for their combined excellence in competition and in the classroom.

Tragarz, a native of San Diego, Calif., carries a 3.99 grade point average for the Buffaloes as an Environmental Engineering major with a minor in Global Engineering. He advanced to the national ballot after earning a spot on the CSC Academic All-District team in June, and was voted to the second team by CSC members nationwide.

He backed up that classroom resume with a stellar season on the track.  Tragarz qualified for his first NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 400-meter hurdles this spring, capping a campaign in which he moved to No. 2 on Colorado's all-time list in the event. He opened the season with a 50.37 at the Jack Christiansen Invitational before running a personal-best 49.84 at the Mt. SAC Relays, placing fifth in the elite section. He matched that mark at the Big 12 Championships, where he finished runner-up and became Colorado's highest individual scorer.

His indoor season was just as productive. Tragarz earned All-America honors on Colorado's distance medley relay, which placed eighth at the NCAA Indoor Championships, and ran the 400-meter leg on the Buffaloes' runner-up DMR at the Big 12 Championships. He also set indoor personal bests in the 400 meters (46.69, third at the Colorado Classic) and 200 meters (21.50, second at the Colorado Invitational).

Away from the track, Tragarz is a member of CU's Engineers Without Borders Ecuador team and performs with the Spaghetti Confession improv team.

Tragarz is the first men's track & field/cross country Academic All-American since Joe Klecker was first team in 2020 and just the seventh in CU history with those seven now earning 10 total Academic All-America honors.  The CSC Academic All-America program honors student-athletes in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
