CU Student-Athletes Gain Real-World Business Knowledge at Downtown Boulder Shadow Day

On June 23rd, 16 CU Football and Men's Basketball student-athletes arrived on Pearl Street to shadow one of 11 businesses, including RRC Associates, The Trade Desk, Cooper Carry Architects, LIV Sotheby's, and more. There, they had the opportunity to ask questions, tour the facilities, and meet company employees. Each student-athlete was assigned to a specific company located throughout downtown Boulder based on their personal interests and academic focuses.
The day kicked off with lunch at The Post, where participants mingled with employees from various businesses near Pearl Street. This gave everyone the chance to connect, regardless of where each student-athlete was shadowing. After lunch, the group walked to their assigned businesses to better understand what day-to-day life is like for these professionals.
Football student-athlete Damon Greaves was one of the attendees of this event. He stated, "The event was a great opportunity to meet employers within the Boulder community who passed on great knowledge in their industry. This opportunity provided me with valuable information and networks as I begin to plan for what's next for me after college."
Associate Athletic Director and Director of the Scripps Leadership & Career Development Program Lauren Unrein has worked at CU for eight years, helping student-athletes gain professional knowledge and experience. She said, "This event is a tremendous opportunity for our student-athletes to expand their professional networks, gain confidence in sharing their personal stories, and explore what life after athletics can look like for them."
Thanks to a joint effort with the Downtown Boulder Partnership, the Scripps Leadership & Career Development Office gave participants the opportunity to see a side of Pearl Street they may never have seen before. From lunch to leadership, the Scripps LCD program remains committed to providing student-athletes with experiences that prepare them for whatever their future holds.
