She became just the 19th individual in CU history to post a season with 300 in two statistical categories and the 16th outside to do so. Spann was named to both the Rumble in the Rockies and Pac-12 vs. Big Ten All-Tournament teams. She had a huge performance in the second match against North Florida (8/24) with a .481 hitting percentage with 14 kills. She continued against No.11 Illinois (8/31) where she led the team with 10 kills and a .308 hitting percentage. The next night she set a career-high in digs against Iowa with 25. Spann was especially dangerous against No.2 Stanford in both occasions. At home (10/7) she had 18 kills and a .395 hitting percentage in three sets. She followed it up against the best team in the nation with 24 kills and a .304 hitting percentage, taking the Cardinal to five on the road (11/2) for the first time in school history. She helped push the Buffs into the NCAA Tournament with a domination of UCLA (11/21) on the road with 17 kills and a .368 hitting percentage along with 11 digs. She recorded eight double-doubles all season long. Her stellar season ranked her 18th in kills in the rally-scoring era, 12th in total attacks and 17th in digs. She is now 40th in CU history in digs.

2017 (Sophomore):
In her sophomore season, Spann played in 32 of 34 matched for the Buffs, and even made two starts.  In her first career start against Abilene Christian (9/3), Spann had an outstanding performance, recording nine kills and 11 digs. Spann was also a huge factor in the team’s close five-set win over Illinois, as she tallied three aces for the first time in her career. Spann had her best performance of the season in the team’s 3-0 win over Albany (9/16) where she recorded her first double-double. She tallied 11 kills and 11 digs, as well as tying her career high three aces. Spann saw action in the third and fourth set of the match against Washington State (10/6) as the libero, recording five digs. She also served as the libero for the first and second sets in the team’s loss to Nebraska (12/8) in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament.

2016 (Freshman):
Spann saw the most time of the court of any of CU’s freshmen in 2016, playing in 43 sets and 17 matches. She debuted for the Buffs against Portland State (8/27), but didn’t earn her first statistic until two matches later against then-No. 15 San Diego with her first dig. She saw significant time against Chicago State, recording six kills and a season-best 13 digs while hitting .308. In the following match against New Orleans, she had nine kills and 10 digs with a .412 hitting efficiency. During the Pac-12 season, Spann continued to earn time on the court. She hammered a career-high 12 kills against Oregon State (11/12) and added seven digs and three blocks for a season-best 13.5 points. Spann recorded 57 kills, 54 digs and 11 blocks in 43 sets during the season.

She also posted 47 blocks and tallied 536 digs as Basha High School finished the season 24-16. She was named the MaxPreps/AVCA High School Player of the Week for Arizona after recording 60 kills, 24 digs and six blocks the week of Sept. 7-14, 2015. Spann was named the MaxPreps Player of the Match seven times over the course of the 2015 season.

A three-time captain, she earned numerous awards during her senior season, including Basha Varsity Volleyball Player of the Year, Arizona Central Female Athlete of the Week (Oct. 8-15), Nike Invitational All-Tournament Team and Basha Player of the year.

Arizona Storm was the 17 Open runner-up in 2015. During those three season, Spann earned consecutive USA Volleyball All-America honors.

Mahoney on Spann
“Big things come in small packages and Justine definitely plays very big.  Another complete player who has the skill-set to play all six rotations.  She was a spark off the bench her freshman year and we expect to see her on the floor more this year.”
