Colorado-West Virginia Notes

Colorado dropped its fourth-straight contest, falling to 0-4 in the Big 12. It’s the first time the Buffaloes have lost four-straight to open conference play since 2016-17 in the Pac-12 (started 0-7). Overall it’s Colorado’s first four-game losing streak since dropping the final five games of the 2019-20 season, which ended with the postseason being canceled due to COVID-19.
 
Colorado’s 24 free throws made and 30 attempted are the most in regulation this season and second-most overall. The Buffaloes were 31 of 14 against Northern Colorado in double overtime. The 24 made are the most in league play since hitting 26 (of 29) against Arizona State on Feb. 8, 2024. The 30 attempts are the most against a conference opponent since shooting 32 against Washington State (22-32) in the first round of the 2020 Pac-12 Tournament. It’s the most in a regular season game since shooting 40 (30 of 40) against Stanford on Feb. 8, 2020.
 
Colorado which averages 55.8 field goal attempts per game has its second and third lowest attempt totals the last two games. The Buffs made 48 attempts vs. West Virginia after just 46 at UCF. The season low is 45, in the win over UConn.
 
Colorado’s 20 field goals made ties the team’s season-low (20 vs. Michigan State).
 
West Virginia’s 20 free throws made is CU’s second-most allowed this season (21 at UCF) and the 28 free throw attempts ties UCF for the top spot this year.
 
Julian Hammond (23 points, 6-17 FG, 3-7 3FG, 8-8 FT) recorded his fifth 20-point game of the season, second-straight and third in his last five games. His three 3-point field goals gave him 100 for his career. Tied a career-high with eight free throws made for the second-straight game and the 8 for 8 performance is the best without a miss for the Buffaloes this year. He is now 43 of 46 from the line this season, leading the Big 12 at 93.5 percent.
 
Javon Ruffin (5 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists) tied his career-high in rebounds, matching a performance at Arizona State on Feb. 16, 2023. Has 10 rebounds the last two games after having only 18 over his previous 11.
 
Assane Diop (13 points, 3-4 FG, 6-6 FT, 5 rebounds) third career double-figure scoring game and second this season. Has made 13 of 14 free throws the last two games (.929) after having only 16 attempts his first 13 games (13 of 16).
