Maileka Slayton is in her first year on the University of Colorado staff as the assistant director for on-campus recruiting, as she joined the department on May 24, 2022.
Slayton, 27, came to Colorado from Samford University in Homewood, Ala., where she was the donor relations coordinator from February 2021 until she left for CU. Included among her many duties were donor recognition, stewardship and acknowledgment; planning and executing donor hospitality events at home football and basketball games and Samford’s annual Hall of Fame celebration and golf tournament; and managing a team of 20 student workers and Samford ambassadors.
She previous had worked as an events and hospitality intern for the Reese’s Senior Bowl (January 2019-January 2020), where she was responsible for registered over 200 members of the media and NFL scouts along with game day administration and management.
Slayton also worked as a recruiting assistant for the Auburn University football team (2018 season) and as an operations intern for Kennesaw State University for the 2017 season.
She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from Kennesaw State in December 2017. A four-year letterwinner on the Owls track team, she earned multiple All-Atlantic Sun (ASUN) Conference honors in sprints and relays across four events and was a USTFCCCA second-team All-American in the 4x100 relay as a freshman. She had collegiate bests of 23.59 in the 200 and 55.16 in the 400.
She was born February 16, 1995 in Norcross, Ga., and graduated from Greater Atlanta Christian High School where she lettered in track. A two-time state champion in the 100- and 200-meter dashes (personal bests as a prep of 11.84 and 24.38, respectively), she set four school records and was on the relay teams that set two state marks (4x100 and 4x400).
