Bio
- 2002 Big 12 All-Academic first team
Junior (2002): Barnes came off the bench and into the midfield in 11 games, 10 games more than the 2001 campaign.. Her lone 'number' of the season was a shot against Missouri's in CU's 2-2 tie.
Sophomore (2001): Played one game in her first season in Boulder, coming off the bench against Kansas.
Freshman (1999 at Notre Dame): A recruited walk-on, Barnes was a reserve for the Irish, seeing the pitch in five games. The Irish went 21-4-1 in '99, winning the Big East Conference Championship and advancing to the NCAA title game before losing to North Carolina 2-0 for a national runner-up finish.
High School: As a freshman she was at Forest Ridge which reached the state semifinals her freshman year and she was a SeaTac B League Honorable Mention selection. As a senior Eastlake was the King County 4A Champions and Barnes was a second-team All-King County performer, team MVP and captain. On the club level she played for the Washington Soccer Club and were the 1999 state champions and finalists at the 1997 Surf Cup. She also spent three years on the WSYSA State Olympic Development team and Region IV ODP pool play.
In The Classroom: Barnes took a year off from school between Notre Dame and Colorado to travel. She's an MCDB biology major at Colorado and carries a better than 3.0 grade point average.
Personal: Emily Grace Barnes was born Feb. 4, 1981 in Rochester, Mich. Her parents are Peter and Kristine Barnes of Sammamish, Wash. Her older sister Leah ran cross country Pomona College and her younger sister Mary is a junior in college. She has been playing the violin since she was 3 and also enjoys pottery and reading. Landing on the CU campus was happenstance. During her year hiatus, she and her family took a ski vacation to Colorado and they stopped in Boulder to check out campus. Even before she saw campus, she turned to her father and said, 'This is where I'm going to school. I could look at those mountains forever and never get sick of them.'
