Dr. Kyle Goerl, MD CAQSM is in his first year as a team physician with the CU athletic program. He came here in October of 2022 and works primarily with track and cross country, but helps with football and the other sports as well.

Goerl is an associate professor in the department of Family Medicine at the CU School of Medicine. He arrived here from Manhattan, KS, where he was a Team Physician for K State Athletics for 5 years and the Medical Director for Lafene Student Health Center. He served as the Team Physician Chair of the Big 12’s Medical Aspects of Sport Advisory Committee from 2020-2022. He also served on advisory committees for COVID-19 to the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the NCAA. Prior to his time in Manhattan, he was with the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita teaching in their Sports Medicine fellowship and a Team Physician for Wichita State Athletics.

He is an active member of both the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). He served as Program Director for the 2022 AMSSM Annual Meeting, and he was a long time editor of the AMSSM patient education website, SportsMedToday.com.

He is double boarded in Sports Medicine and Family Medicine. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a BA in psychology and a minor in biochemistry, while competing in the decathlon for the track and field team. He attended medical school at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita, graduating in 2010. His residency in Family Medicine and fellowship in Sports Medicine were completed at the University of Utah in 2013 and 2014, respectively.

Goerl is originally from Hutchinson, Kansas. His wife, Danae, is a pediatrician at Denver Children’s Hospital, and they have three boys, Wyatt (9) and twins, Levi and Sam (5). In their spare time they chase kids, hike, mountain bike, and ski as much as possible, which is why they are so happy to now be living in Colorful Colorado!
