Marcos Rael

Marcos Rael joined the University of Colorado athletics staff in September 2023 as the Director of Marketing and Fan Experience. He is responsible for overseeing fan experience initiatives, with primary sport responsibilities for football, men’s basketball, and soccer including the development of marketing plans and in-game presentation.
Rael brought more than a decade of experience in collegiate athletics and corporate marketing to Boulder. At CU, Rael was instrumental in driving a 14 percent increase in single-game revenue and a 13 percent increase in season ticket revenue for men's basketball between the 2022–23 and 2023–24 seasons.
Prior to Colorado, he served as assistant athletic director for marketing and revenue generation at New Mexico. During his time with the Lobos, basketball revenue doubled, average attendance rose 31 percent, and student attendance jumped 97 percent.
In a brief stint outside of college athletics, Rael ranked as a top 10% producer in his region with Humana.
From 2019 to 2021, Rael was the director of marketing at Army West Point, where he led the game presentation for the 121st Army-Navy Game, held at West Point for the first time since World War II and worked alongside officials from the Naval Academy, the White House and U.S. Secret Service. His video board content from that era generated more than 100 million views across social media platforms.
Rael also held positions at TCU, Texas Tech and New Mexico State during his rise through the ranks of collegiate marketing. At TCU, he helped produce sellouts in men’s basketball and baseball, oversaw a 110 percent capacity average for volleyball, and multiple attendance records at Soccer.
His professional honors include the 2025 CU Athletics RAPID Award for exemplifying department core values, several NACMA (National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators) awards at three schools, the Mike Cleary Minority Award, and a 2025 NACMA Marketing Team of the Year Finalist.
A native of Las Vegas, N.M., Rael graduated from St. Michael’s High School in Santa Fe, where he was a standout multi-sport athlete. He was a three-time individual state medalist in wrestling, the 2007 district champion, and helped lead his team to a runner-up finish at the 2009 state meet. He was a member of the 2007 state football championship team and a state qualifier in track and field in 2008.
Rael earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from New Mexico State University and later completed a master’s degree in educational leadership at Texas Christian University.
Rael is a Type 1 diabetic and actively champions awareness and advocacy efforts for the condition. An avid traveler and outdoorsman, he completed the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in 2022. His hobbies include hiking, fishing, photography, snowboarding and slalom waterskiing.
