Volleyball Falls in Three

The University of Colorado volleyball team (11-10, 5-6 Big 12) fell to the Kansas State Wildcats 22-30, 19-30, 31-33 (13-6, 9-2 Big 12) 31-33, 36-34, 31-29, 30-26 Saturday night at the Coors Events/Conference Center to drop their second contest to K-State this season. The Buffs lost in four games in Manhattan on Oct. 12.
"We need to keep working in practice," Colorado assistant Jil Thomason said. "How you practice is how you will play during the game. This is the time for us to get in together and turn things around. The season is coming to an end and the pressure is on. We realize we need to make it happen right now, we just need to turn some things around and make some changes."
The Buffs were lethargic coming out of the gates, but rallied to be more competitive in game three. They held a 27-20 lead in the final game of the night, but let it go after the 'Cats went on a six-point run. Kansas State laid down three straight kills to seal the deal.
Senior middle blocker Meghan Barkman finished the night without an error, hitting a team-high .450 with nine kills on 20 attacks with an additional nine digs for the Buffs, but her efforts weren't enough to spark the win.
"We're going through the motions but we're not finishing," Barkman said. "We are trying to give it our all, trying to spark the team, but things just aren't going our way."
The Buffs registered four team blocks to the Wildcats' 12. Colorado hit .136 in the match while Kansas State hit .338, and while K-State had two individuals hit double-figures in kills, Colorado had no one.
KSU was paced by Lauren Goehring, who pocketed a match-high 19 kills with a .515 hitting percentage against CU, while Cari Jensen added 14 to the 'Cats' winning effort.
Colorado remains in Boulder to host the No. 4 Nebraska Cornhuskers on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at the Coors Events/Conference Center at 7 p.m. before they hit the road to face Texas A&M on Nov. 2 and Texas on Nov. 6.
