LINCOLN, Neb. ? Seventh ranked Nebraska held Colorado to a .107 hitting percentage and had 11 service aces as the Huskers swept the Buffs 30-22, 30-24, 30-16 in a Big 12 Conference match Wednesday at the NU Coliseum.
The Buffaloes fall to 10-5 overall and 2-3 in Big 12 action. All three of CU's Big 12 losses have come on the road in 2003. Nebraska moves to 13-1, 5-0 in league play, extending its winning streak over the Buffs to 11 matches.
Colorado had a season-low 37 kills and 24 errors on 122 attempts. It was the first match this season where the Buffs didn't have a player with double-digits in kills. Sophomore Allie Griffin led the way for CU with eight kills and a match-high 12 digs.
CU played even with the Huskers in much of games one and two. The Huskers led just 23-20 in game one before scoring four-straight to pull away. In game two Colorado held an 18-15 lead before NU scored nine of the next 11 points.
Nebraska made its height advantage work in game three, wearing down CU. The Huskers had five of their 11 blocks and two aces in game three, holding the Buffs to a -.050 hitting percentage (9k-11e-40att).
'In games one and two we really battled,' head coach Pi'i Aiu said. 'They just wear you out. With their size we have to do so much more and work so much harder.'
CU will continue Big 12 action on Saturday, Oct. 4, against the University of Texas at 7 p.m. at the Coors Events Conference Center.
