
Women's Tennis Defeats No. 65 Texas Tech, 5-2

BOULDER - The University of Colorado women's tennis team, ranked No. 42 nationally held serve at home and defeated No. 65 Texas Tech, 5-2, Saturday afternoon at the Millennium Hotel Harvest House.
The Buffaloes have won four of their last six matches improving to 7-3 and 1-1 in Big 12 play, while the Lady Red Raiders fall to 5-4 and 1-2 in the conference. CU has won three of the last four against TTU and holds a 13-7 advantage over their conference in the head-to-head series.
Despite losing the doubles point, CU stormed back to win five of six singles slots led by Jessica Vanderdys at No. 1 singles. Vanderdys won her 68th career singles match defeating Tara Browning 6-2, 6-3 for her third straight win.
Ewa Losinski, Veera Nurmi, Franziska Jendrian, and Gleisy Torres Torres rounded out the singles victories from No. 3 through No. 6.
Losinski improved to 8-2 with a three-set winner (6-4, 2-6, 6-3); Nurmi won her seventh match in 10 tries this spring taking a 6-0, 6-4 decision; and Torres Torres clinched the match at No. 6 with a 6-3, 6-1 victory. Jendrian capped the Buffaloes team win at No. 5 with a 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7) winner.
Overall on the season, Vanderdys has a team best 17-6 record, followed by sophomore Veera Nurmi (16-7), and freshman Franziska Jendrian at 12-9.
“It's good to get a win in the Big 12 Conference,” said CU head coach Nicole Kenneally. “The girls played well all the way down the line and we're finding the play on a consistent basis and that's important this time of the season.”
CU hosts Kansas State, March 4 at the Ranch Country Club in Westminster beginning at 4 p.m.
