Colorado Postgame Notes

Quickly Missouri now leads the series by a 38-31-3 count, dropping CU's lead in Boulder to 20-15-1; it was the Tigers first win at Folsom Field since 1997 and just their second in the last 12 tries here... Colorado scored 10 points in the first quarter; Missouri had allowed 22 in its first nine games combined... CU did not have a first down in four second quarter possessions, going three plays and out all four times (MU scored 24 points and outgained CU 229-14 in the period)... In your weird stat of the night, Mizzou ran 10 plays in the red zone for 3 yards in the first half, but had 37 for 358 outside of it... TB Byron Ellis scored the second rushing touchdown of his career to open the game's scoring; his other sent last year's game with Baylor into overtime (he caught a TD pass against Kansas earlier in the season)... The 72-yard pass play on Missouri's first series (Daniel to Franklin) was the longest by a CU opponent this season (the longest since the same weekend last year, when Josh Freeman and Jordy Nelson hooked up on a 74-yard pass play for Kansas State n Nov. 4, 2006)... S Lionel Harris recorded his first career sack in the fourth quarter, CU's first (and only) of the game... QB Cody Hawkins consecutive games streak with at least one touchdown pass came to an end today at nine, leaving him tied with Koy Detmer for the school record (his 100 yards passing in the game moved him from 18th into 14th place on CU's career list with 2,190, as he skipped past Ken Johnson, Bill Solomon and Jeff Knapple)... P Matt DiLallo had a career-high 11 punts tonight; his old high had been eight... The first half took one hour, 47 minutes to play (game time was 3:33)... OLB Nate Vaiomounga celebrated his 18th birthday today... A reminder that a memorial service for former Buff tight end Tennyson McCarty (1994-97), who passed away on October 19, is set for 1 p.m. Sunday at Macky Auditorium on the CU campus.

SCOREBOARD BLITZ  Missouri became the first opponent to score 50-plus points at Folsom since, well, Missouri... the Tigers won 59-20 on Oct. 8, 1983.  The 45-point loss was CU's third worst loss in its home history, trailing a 103-0 loss to Colorado Mines on Nov. 22, 1890 and a 62-0 loss to Oklahoma on Nov. 3, 1962 (45 years ago today).  It is the 12th largest margin of defeat in school annals overall.  It was CU's second most-lopsided loss to Missouri (MU won 57-0 in Columbia in 1962; it ties for the fourth largest margin of victory in the series, trailing that 57-point game and two CU wins (55-7 in 1991 and 49-3 in 1989).

DEFENSIVE LINE AND INTERCEPTIONS   DT George Hypolite intercepted the first pass of his career, the second by a Colorado defensive lineman in 2007 (DE Alonzo Barrett had one at Baylor).  It was the first by a defensive tackle since 2003, when DT Brandon Dabdoub picked one off at Texas Tech (on Nov. 1, or the same weekend of the year).

FIRST BLOCK OF HAWKINS ERA  DE Alonzo Barrett's blocked punt in the first quarter was CU's first block of the season, and the fist blocked punt (or kick of any kind) by a Buff since the 2005 Champs Sports Bowl, when CB Vance Washington had one against Clemson.  Thus, it was CU's first kick block under Dan Hawkins.

232 & COUNTING  Colorado scored in its 232nd consecutive game (last shutout: 7-0 at Nebraska on Nov. 12, 1988), adding to the fifth longest active streak in the nation and now tying the 10th longest of all-time; CU has now also scored in 147 straight league games (all 97 in Big 12 Conference play including four title games), and has scored in 123 straight games at home (last shutout: a 28-0 loss to Oklahoma on Nov. 15, 1986).  The Buffs tied Florida State for the 10th longest streak in NCAA history (1988-2006), with the ninth longest streak just ahead (233, 1971-1991).

STREAK COMES TO AN END  Only five teams in the nation had gone longer without allowing 500 yards than Colorado coming into this game, but the Buffs streak of 41 came to an end as Missouri gained 598.  The last team to top 500 against the Buffs has been Texas A&M with 532 on Oct. 23, 2004 (in overtime); the Tigers almost became the first to record 600 in a game against CU since Oct. 6, 1984, when the Tigers had 639 in a 52-7 win in Columbia (and would have except for the two 2-yard kneeldowns at game's end).

I-70 SWEEP With CU losing to Missouri, the Buffs have dropped all three games in the same season to its Interstate 70 companion schools (KU, KSU, MU) for just the seventh time in history.  The Buffs dropped the trio of games previously in 1953, 1964, 1980, 1984, 1998, 2006 and 2007.

WR DUSTY SPRAGUE (4-43, 0 TD RECEIVING)     The senior wide receiver moved into the top 10 in all-time receptions at CU, as he has 98 for 1,184 yards in his career; that ties him for ninth on the reception list with TE Christian Fauria, and he moved past TE Jon Embree into 14th place on the yards list.

TB HUGH CHARLES (14-55 RUSHING, 0 TD)  CU's senior tailback moved into eighth on the all-time rushing list, as he finished the game with 2,407 yards for his career, passing Bobby Anderson (2,367).

NON-FOOTBALL ALUMNI NOTE     Former CU golfer Edward McGlasson ('06) has advanced out of the first stage of local PGA Tour qualifying, as he finished the California qualifier 8-under par today, making it to the next stage by a stroke.

Missouri Postgame Notes

  • Mizzou broke a four-game losing streak in Boulder. CU has won four straight over Mizzou in Boulder and 10-of-11 dating back to 1985...
  • Mizzou moved to 8-1 on a season for the first time since 1969...
  • Freshman WR/KR/PR Jeremy Maclin finished the night with 44 kickoff return yards; he now has 605 on the season, which is just one behind the school record of 606 set by Rahsetnu Jenkins in 1994...

1st Quarter

  • Mizzou was stopped on the game-opening possession when a tipped pass was intercepted by CU and returned to the MU 11-yardline. The Buffs punched it in for a quick 7-0 lead, marking only the 2nd time this season that an opponent scored first. The only other occasion was in the season opener as MU trailed Illinois, 6-0, after a blocked punt in the 1st quarter...
  • Colorado's score on the opening drive (needing just 11 yards to go due to the short field) marked the first score of any kind allowed by MU's defense this season on the opponent's opening possession...
  • Junior CB Castine Bridges made his first career start tonight...
  • The Tiger offense responded when QB Chase Daniel connected with WR Will Franklin for a 70-yard pass play that took the ball to the CU 5-yardline. That marked the longest play from scrimmage for Mizzou in 2007, surpassing the previous long of 57 yards, done twice previously (Daniel-to-Franklin vs. Illinois State and Daniel-to-Maclin vs. Texas Tech...
  • The reception was the longest of Franklin's career, besting his previous long of 68 yards vs. Ohio in 2006...
  • MU scored three plays later when Daniel hit TE Martin Rucker on an inside screen, and he scored from 3-yards out, dragging several defenders with him in the process. It was the 15th receiving TD of Rucker's career, moving him 3 shy of the MU career record of 18 by WR Justin Gage (1999-2002)...
  • CU regained the lead with 2:10 left in the quarter on a short field goal, after the Buffs blocked a punt near midfield, giving them a short field for a second time, as they took over deep in MU territory...
  • CU got yet another short field, taking over at the Tiger 47 right before the end of the quarter after a short punt by MU and a 15-yard kick-catch interference penalty against the Tigers...

2nd Quarter

  • Senior Lorenzo Williams picked up his second fumble recovery of the season and the seventh of his career in the second quarter after junior Tommy Chavis forced the fumble on a quarterback sack of Cody Hawkins...
  • Three plays after the Williams' fumble recovery, Daniel connected with Maclin for a 46-yard TD score. It was Maclin's team-leading 11th touchdown of the season (5th receiving)...
  • On the Tigers' next drive, Daniel and sophomore Jared Perry hooked up for a 45-yard reception that took the ball to the 6-yard line. The reception was the longest of the season for Perry and was his first catch in three games...
  • Junior Jeff Wolfert hit on a 27-yard field goal, improving to 13-of-17 on FG attempts this season...
  • Jeremy Maclin's 15-yard reception in the 2nd quarter pushed his game total for all-purpose yardage to 139, and that gave him 1,634 on the season, which broke the MU single-season record of 1,621 set by former All-American TB Devin West in 1998...
  • In the final minutes of the first half, Daniel scrambled away from pressure and found junior Chase Coffman, who scampered in for a 25-yard TD. It was Coffman's 4th touchdown of the season and the 17 of his career, which places him just one away from matching the MU record for receiving touchdowns (18 by Justin Gage, 99-02)...
  • Maclin also broke a 2nd record in the quarter, as he broke the MU season record for combined kick return yards (punt & kickoff). He entered the game with 772 combined yards, and had 58 by half (44 kickoff, 14 punt), upping his season total to 830 ? besting the old mark of 826 set by Jon Staggers in 1969...
  • Mizzou's defense held CU to a total of 14 yards in the quarter, holding the Buffs to 5 straight 3-and-out series to end the quarter..

3rd Quarter

  • MU's defense got its 6th-straight 3-and-out defensive series by holding CU without a 1st down on the Buffs opening possession of the quarter, but the Tiger offense couldn't capitalize, as it was held to a 3-and-out of its own, marking only the 12th 3-and-out punt series of the year by MU's offense...
  • On the next defensive series, MU got another 3-and-out, marking the 7th-straight of the game...
  • This time, the Tiger offense struck, going 51 yards on 6 plays for a TD that was capped off by TE Chase Coffman's 23-yard catch-and-run for a score that gave him 18 career TDs ? tying the MU career record of 18 established by WR Justin Gage from 1999-2002...
  • Coffman's TD put the Tigers up, 38-10...
  • Colorado broke the string on its next possession, getting a 1st down, but the Tiger defense still held, getting an interception by FS William Moore after LB Sean Weatherspoon deflected the ball at the line of scrimmage. It was Moore's 4th INT of the season, and the 6th of his career...
  • MU got another takeaway on the next series, as LB Van Alexander forced his 1st career fumble when he separated QB Cody Hawkins from the ball on a scramble, and LB Sean Weatherspoon recovered (his 1st career recovery) to give MU the ball at its own 44-yardline...
  • With TE Martin Rucker's 8-yard reception at the 2:45 mark of the quarter, Rucker broke the MU single-season receptions record for TEs, with his 59th of the year (5th of the game). He entered the game with 54 catches, and breaks the record set just last year by teammate Chase Coffman (58 catches in 2006)...
  • Coffman later caught his 3rd TD of the game with :45 seconds left in the quarter to put MU up, 48-10. That gave Coffman 19 career receiving TDs, which breaks the tie he established earlier in the game with Justin Gage...
  • The TD pass was the 5th of the night for Daniel, which ties the MU single-game record he had achieved twice previously (2006 vs. Murray State, 2007 at Ole Miss)...
  • The points gave MU 48 for the night, and according to CU SID David Plati, it represents the most points scored by an opponent in Boulder since 1983, when the Missouri Tigers won a 59-20 ballgame...
