LOS
ANGELES - After earning its first ever Pac-12 Conference victory last weekend,
the University of Colorado tennis team faced a tough road test, falling 7-0 to
No. 7 Southern California in its first conference road match of the season.
The Trojans are by far one of the toughest teams the Buffaloes have faced this
season, ranked No. 7 in the nation, with four ranked singles players and one
ranked doubles team. USC improves to 12-2 overall, 2-0, while the Buffs slip to
6-7, 1-2 after last week's impressive 4-2 win over Arizona. USC holds a 6-0
series lead over the Buffs, playing five of their matches in Los Angeles.
"Today we played one of the best teams in the country," CU head coach Nicole
Kenneally said. "It was a great experience for our players, and I think there's
a lot that our players can learn from opponents like this. I look forward to us
taking what we learned into tomorrow's match."
The junior tandem of Winde Janssens and Carla Manzi Tenorio continue to stand
out at the No. 2 doubles position. The duo put up the biggest fight in Friday's
match at Marks Stadium, behind just 4-3 when play was suspended. Janssens/Manzi
Tenorio have an outstanding 9-2 record this season. In their only other
incomplete match, they were tied 5-5 against Arizona State's J. Smith/Panoho.
After clinching the Buffs' first Pac-12 victory last weekend, Erin Sanders once
again had one of the Buffs' best performances. Against No. 67 Gabriella
DeSimone, Sanders won a team-high four games.
The Buffs continue their five-match California road trip on Saturday, March 16
at UCLA. First serve is at 2 p.m. (MDT).
