Colorado-USC Game Notes

February 08, 2015 | Women's Basketball

USC improves its lead in the series to 8-4 and has won the last four. Colorado drops to 2-4 against USC since joining the Pac-12 in 2011-12.

Colorado and USC were even on the boards (36-36), the second time this year the Buffs have been even with an opponent (Wyoming). CU has been even or out rebounded its opponents in 19 of 23 games.

Colorado has made at least 75 percent from the free throw line in eight of the last nine games. The Buffaloes were 88.9 percent on Sunday (16-of-18) and have made 57-of-69 over the last three (.826).

Colorado's 18 field goals and 32.7 percent shooting were season lows and the 51 points was the second lowest output of the season (50 at Missouri).

Colorado trailed by nine early in the first half (15-6) but went on a 17-6 run in the final 9:43 of the period to take a 23-21 lead at the break. USC rebounded to open up the game with a 17-2 run to start the second half. After scoring just 21 points in the first half, the Trojans had 23 in the first 8:04 of the second.

USC, shooting just 62 percent from the foul line on the year, made 80 percent (20-of-25) including its first 14 of the second half  and finishing 15-of-16 in the final 20 minutes.

Lexy Kresl (14 points, 2-of-7 3FG) became the 27th player in team history to reach 1,000 career points (in her 116th career game). She hit the milestone with a 3-pointer at 14:56 run of the first half which came in the middle of a 17-6 run that ended period. She scored in double digits for the ninth straight game, extending a personal best streak.  It was her 86th career game with a 3-pointer and 47th with two or more. Kresl has made 24 of her last 50 from 3-point range (.480).

With Jen Reese reaching 1,000 earlier in the season, it marks the first time since 2006-07 where two Buffs have reached 1,000 in the same season: Jackie McFarland (3rd 1,957) and Jasmina Ilic (23rd 1,093).

Jamee Swan (14 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block) registered her team-best sixth double-double of the season, and the eighth of her career. She became the 22nd player to reach 500 career rebounds, now with 507. Swan has led, or tied for the lead, in scoring in 11 games this season, including both on the L.A. road trip. She added one blocked shot, giving her 27 over the last 10 games (2.7 bpg). She remains eighth on CU's season list for blocks at 49 and also eighth on the career charts at 113.

Swan is averaging 15.8 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.7 blocks over the last six games.

Zoe Beard-Fails (5 points, 4 rebounds, 5-of-6 FT) made 5-of-6 from the free throw line, all in the first half. She had only been 6-of-11 for the entire 11-game Pac-12 season.
