CU Sweeps Doubles, Tops Eastern Washington

BOISE, IDAHO — The University of Colorado tennis team played their first of two matches scheduled for the weekend. CU earned a victory on Saturday topping Eastern Washington 6-1 at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center in Boise, Idaho. The win moved the Buffaloes to a solid 3-0 start to the 2017 season.
 
WHAT HAPPENED:
Colorado opened the morning by winning the doubles point 2-0. The duo of Annabelle Andrinopoulos and Ilana Oleynik extended their doubles dominance with a 6-2 decision over Eastern Washington's Rachel Swindell and Marta Heinin. Andrinopoulos and Oleynik are now 4-0 in doubles this season. Louise Ronaldson gained a new partner today in Brigitte Beck which didn't slow them down as they took the 6-3 victory over Carolina Lopez and Valentina Sottile to clinch the doubles point.
 
No. 77 ranked Nuria Ormeño Ruiz quickly took down Faye Warrall 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 1 singles to put the Buffaloes up 2-0 in the match. Ruiz now sits undefeated at the No. 1 singles spot this season (3-0).
 
Andrinopoulos won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 and Chloe Hule won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 to clinch the match with a 4-0 lead for CU.
 
Ilana Oleynik and Louise Ronaldson also earned wins for the Buffs at No. 5 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Oleyik won 6-3, 6-1 and Ronaldson won 6-1, 6-4. Brigitte Beck had a touch match against EWU's Sottile as she dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision.
 
NEXT TIME:
The Buffs continue play this weekend as they take on Boise State Sunday at 10:00 am MT. The Broncos opened their weekend with 6-1 victory over Eastern Washington on Friday. Live stats will be available at http://www.broncosports.com/livestats/w-tennis/xlive.htm.

We had a solid performance today. We did what we needed to do to win. It was great Chloe had an opportunity to clinch. Tomorrow we will have a much tougher competitor in BSU and look forward to the challenge. We will be ready for the battle.
