CU Heads To Los Angeles Looking For Two Pac-12 Road Wins
April 06, 2017 | Tennis
BOULDER- The Colorado Buffaloes tennis team (9-8, 1-5 Pac-12) looks to find some momentum and pick up two road wins this weekend in Los Angeles, Calif. The Buffs will face off against No. 20 UCLA on Friday, April 7 at 2:30 p.m. MT, and on Saturday, April 8 at 1:00 p.m. MT against No. 40 USC. The last time CU faced these two opponents, the matches ended up in both opponents favor, so redemption is a mindset this weekend.
The Buffaloes earned their first Pac-12 win against Washington State on March 20 in Boulder, Colorado. The win was followed by three tough losses against all ranked teams. (Washington, California, Stanford) This weekend the Buffaloes can make a season turn around with two wins.
Nurla Omeño Ruiz is leading the team posting a 18-11 overall record for the season thus far and is 9-7 at the No.1 singles position. In doubles, Chloe Hule and Louise Ronaldson have posted an overall 5-11 record this season.
No. 20 ranked UCLA (10-5, 4-1 Pac-12) enters the weekend on a four game win streak. Two of those last four wins have been against No. 37 ranked Oregon, No.31 ranked Washington. The Bruins come off an impressive (15-7) overall record in the ('15-'16) season beating the Buffaloes 6-1. CU looks for redemption this Friday in Los Angeles hoping to hand UCLA their second Pac-12 loss on the year.
University of Southern California ranked No. 40 (6-8, 1-4 Pac-12) comes into the weekend losing a nail biter match to No. 31 ranked Washington 3-4 last Sunday. The Trojans are looking to gain some momentum too, as they begin nearing the end of the season. Saturday will be a very competitive match for the Buffaloes.
Although the Buffs have struggled the past couple matches, this weekend can be a great opportunity for CU to regain some confidence and finish the season off strong.
