Buffs Battle in Barb Chandler Classic

BOISE, Idaho – With a rain delay during the first day of competition in the Barb Chandler Classic, the University of Colorado women's tennis team found a pair of wins Saturday in Boise, Idaho, with two Buffs remaining in singles play action going into the third day.

The 2018 Barb Chandler Classic, hosted by Boise State University, started Friday morning but weather delayed numerous matches to Saturday. Colorado was able to find a win Friday when Brigitte Beck defeated Madeline Lamoreaux of Eastern Washington University in a comeback fashion. Beck dropped the first set 4-6, then returned to win 7-5 and survive three match-points in a 7-6 battle.

In the quarterfinals on Saturday Beck fell to Lilian Polin of Boise State in a pair of sets, 6-3, 6-1.

After an opening round loss for Annabelle Andrinopoulos, the senior took on Zoey Nelson of Eastern Washington University in the longest match of the season. She took the first set 6-1, then barely lost the second in a 7-6 finish with five set-points. The third set was the longest with a score of 11-9

Freshman Ky Ecton found her first win Saturday in the Orange Draw, conquering Stephanie Broussard of Eastern Washington in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. The freshman is the lone Buff advancing to the semifinals in her draw.

Andrinopoulos and Beck joined up as the lone CU doubles team Saturday. The seniors fell to a tandem from Idaho in an 8-6 match.
