No.34 Denver Takes Down Buffs

BOULDER – The University of Colorado women's tennis team dropped a home match Saturday against No.34-ranked Denver outside at the CU South Campus Tennis Complex by a score of 6-1.
 
Colorado (7-4) battled tough with the Pioneers (9-4) in the doubles point, winning the No.3 match with Tallulah Farrow and Antonia Balzert taking the set 6-3. No.49-ranked Monica Malinen and Sara Nayar dropped the No.1 doubles match by a score of 6-2. The deciding match was a nail biter with Sophia Derivan and Ky Ecton going to a tiebreaker where they fell seven to two as DU took the first point.
 
The lone win for Colorado came in the No.6 match where Maria Campos had a strong comeback against Toni Nelson. Campos dropped the first set 6-1, then took the second 6-4. She dominated the third set with a score of 6-1, giving CU its first point at 5-1.
 
Denver closed out the match win in a matter of minutes after the first win came from Tatum Burger against Sophia Derivan in the No.4 singles match by a score of 6-4, 6-2. Anna Riedmiller defeated Sara Nayar 6-3, 6-2 in the No.2 singles match, followed up by Hada Chang in the No.5 singles against Megan Forster with a pair of 6-2 sets for the team win.
 
Malinen had a strong performance in the No.1 singles match against No.103-ranked Taylor Melville. Malinen took the first set 6-3, then Melville tied it up 6-4. The pair settled on a proset tiebreaker where Melville took the win 10-5.
 
Colorado returns tomorrow against Minnesota. That match is tentatively scheduled to occur in the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center.
