Getting to know the new players throughout the season

BOULDER – The Colorado Buffaloes hit the court for the second time in three days, taking on Utah State on Tuesday (7 p.m. MT). The Buffs are 2-0 at home this season and 12-5 all-time against the Aggies.

The Buffs have 10 new faces on the team this season, and CUBuffs.com is going to feature 'Get to Know' spotlights on all 10 players throughout the season

First up is graduate transfer Johanna Teder.

What was it like growing up in Estonia and playing basketball?
I loved growing up in Estonia. It's a tiny country, and not a lot of people know about it, but it's really safe, lots of nature, and I just loved it. I see myself going back one day, not yet, but one day, and playing basketball was fun. I feel like there's also struggles because women's basketball is not as supported as men's, obviously, but we still have our ways and really good coaches and I still have really good friends.

What was your experience like playing for Estonia's 3x3 team?
I've had a chance to play a few summers. Two years ago, we were really successful. We made it to the European Championship, which is really big for our country because usually, five-on-five doesn't go that far. But I really love the staff. They're really good friends of mine. They're just good people. And every time I go home for summer, I'm like, 'I'm in.'

Why did you choose to study in the United States?
I think the idea came my second year in high school. I just heard all the stories about older players playing in the States, and I just wanted to try. I knew if I want to go pro, I can always come back to Europe, but you can't really go after you go to Europe, so I don't know one thing after another. And I was like, okay, that's what I'm going to do.

Do European schools have the same athletic programs as in the United States?
No. It's club-based. Schools are all separated, and then after school, you go to club training. I did go to a private school, with sports school in high school, so it's kind of similar to what we have here, like preps and high school type of thing. But that's not really common.

Why did you choose to come to CU for graduate school?
Honestly, if you would ask that question four years ago, would I ever consider staying for that long? I would say no, but I got injured, and I redshirted last year, which was one of the hardest years of my life. But I got another opportunity and was like, 'I can't really pass it up.' Then, I got accepted to grad school. So I was like, 'Why not?' And you know, even if I'm older, it's my life, and no one else is living it. So I was like, I would love to come and try one more year in the States.

What injury did you have last year?
I had an Achilles thing. I had it for years and just had to take a break and be mature about it. Life just went that way.

Do you have a favorite basketball memory?
There's a lot. I would turn the memories into connections and friends that I made over the years. I did lose a really good friend of mine, who we played together with, and I feel like that has brought us closer together with my old teammates. We grew up together playing, so I will always cherish those memories with them. I have accomplished a lot with the Washington State University team. So that's always good memories.

What are some of your favorite hobbies outside of basketball?
I'm pretty crafty, and I love to do art. Everything hands-on I'm down to try. I like painting. I can do a lot of stuff. I never really get bored.

What made you want to study business analytics?
That is still a question I'm asking myself. I think, just looking at the master's programs, I always wanted to go back to business after getting a degree in design, art, and communication. I felt like this was the next step to learn more about the other side of marketing and advertising, like what those numbers and all of that mean. So here I am.

Do you know what you want to do after basketball and graduation?
Obviously, I came back, so I had no idea what to do next. I would still love to play after college as long as my body allows me to. And honestly, if that doesn't work out, I would love to maybe travel. And I do miss my countryside and my grandparents, so I would love to maybe make more time for that.

Tuesday's game continues the celebration of CU superfan Peggy Coppom's 100th birthday. Fans will receive special 100th birthday pom poms, and there will be a card to sign at the concourse.

Thad Anderson and former Buff Kami Carmann Snyder will team up for the call on ESPN+.

Cory Lopez and Carol Callan will have pregame coverage starting 30 minutes before tip-off on the Colorado Radio Network.
