Buff Open Strong at UCCS Pre-Holiday Invite and Multi

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The University of Colorado's multi-event athletes and throwers sent a small contingent to the UCCS Pre-Holiday Invite and Multi, posting strong marks Friday, Dec. 13, at the Mountain Lion Fieldhouse.

Riley Burkey shook off some rust to finish second in the women's indoor pentathlon with a personal-best 3,425 points, highlighted by a personal best in the shot put at 9.35 meters. Freshman Ava Goetz continued her impressive start, placing third with 3,371 points. In just her second collegiate meet, Goetz won the high jump with a season-best clearance of 1.73 meters.

In the men's indoor heptathlon, John Swabik and Nick Bianco sit in third and fourth place, respectively, after four events.

In the weight throw, Lucas Williams placed fifth with a toss of 16.41 meters, while Ames Newman finished seventh with a mark of 15.32 meters.

The Buffaloes return to action on Saturday, Dec. 14. On the women's side, Amanda and Elena Opp will compete in the shot put, while Riley Ward takes on the high jump. For the men, nine athletes are set to compete, including Bianco, Swabik, Drake Miller, John Bass, and Marc Martines in the heptathlon; Jackson Meyer in the high jump; and Williams, Newman, and Gustavo Alfonso in the shot put.
