Ten Buffaloes Chase Team USA Spots at USATF Championships

BOULDER, Colo. – Ten current and former University of Colorado student-athletes and coaches are set to compete at the 2025 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships, July 31–Aug. 4, at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

All four days of the 2025 USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships will be available for viewing. The first two days of competition will stream exclusively on USATF.TV, which requires a paid subscription. Saturday and Sunday's events will also be televised live on NBC and streamed on Peacock from 3–5 p.m. CT.

The championships will set the field for Team USA at the NACAC (North American, Central American and Caribbean) Championships, from August 15-17 in Freeport, The Bahamas, and World Championships in Tokyo this September.

The event features a deep field of CU talent, including one current student-athlete, two volunteer coaches, four current CU record holders, and a two-time Olympian.

CU Entrants at the 2025 USATF Outdoor Championships:
  • Valerie Constien – Women's 3,000m Steeplechase (9:03.22*)
    Constien enters the trials with the No. 1 qualifying time. A two-time Olympian, she looks to earn another berth to the World Championships.
  • Abbey Glynn – Women's 400m Hurdles (55.65)
    Glynn holds CU records in the indoor 400 meters and 4x400-meter relay, as well as the outdoor 400 meters and 400-meter hurdles. She enters the meet with the eighth-best qualifying time.
  • Bailey Hertenstein – Women's 5,000m (14:48.91)
    Hertenstein owns the seventh-best entry mark and won both the 5,000m and 10,000m at the 2024 Pac-12 Championships.
  • Sage Hurta-Klecker – Women's 800m (1:57.53*)
    Hurta-Klecker, who also holds the World Championship standard in the 1,500m with a 4:19.89 mile at the 2023 Sir Walter Miler, will focus solely on the 800m. She recently clocked 1:58.89 at the Sunset Tour.
  • Dani Jones – Women's 1,500m (4:03.78)
    A four-time NCAA champion and 12-time All-American, Jones was the 2020 USTFCCCA Indoor Female Athlete of the Year. She placed ninth at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials.
  • Kole Mathison – Men's 3,000m Steeplechase (8:32.74)
    Mathison, a rising CU standout, enters with one of the nation's top collegiate times.
  • Rachel McArthur – Women's 1,500m (4:03.78)
    McArthur will line up alongside Jones in a deep women's 1,500m field.
  • James Milholen – Men's 400m (45.99)
    Milholen, a former Buff, qualified in the 400m and will run in the semifinals.
  • Abby Nichols – Women's 10,000m (31:52.94)
    Nichols, a recent CU graduate, holds the CU school record in the 10,000 meters and will close out the opening day of competition.
  • Jada Green – Women's Javelin (54.80m)
    Green, a recent CU graduate and current volunteer coach, holds the CU school record in the javelin. She set the mark at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials.

  • 3:30 p.m. – Women's Javelin – Jada Green
  • 3:37 p.m. – Women's 800m Prelims – Sage Hurta-Klecker
  • 4:45 p.m. – Men's 400m Semifinals – James Milholen
  • 5:07 p.m. – Women's 3,000m Steeplechase – Valerie Constien
  • 5:39 p.m. – Men's 3,000m Steeplechase – Kole Mathison
  • 6:32 p.m. – Women's 1,500m – Dani Jones, Rachel McArthur
  • 6:54 p.m. – Women's 10,000m – Abby Nichols
Day 3 (Saturday, Aug. 2):
Qualifying Criteria for Team USA:

To earn a spot on Team USA for the 2025 World Athletics Championships, athletes must:
• Place in the top three of their event at USATF Nationals and
• Either hold the World Athletics qualifying standard within the qualification window or
• Have a sufficiently high World Athletics ranking to be accepted via quota.
If a top-three finisher does not meet the standard or quota, the spot is awarded to the next-highest eligible finisher.
