No. 20 Colorado Prepares for Matchup with Cal
March 22, 2024 | Lacrosse
BOULDER — The No. 20 Colorado Buffaloes will be on the road in Northern California Saturday afternoon to take on the California Bears at 2 p.m. MST inside California Memorial Stadium.
After dropping the first conference game of the season to Stanford at home last week, Colorado will look to get back in the win column. They have dropped two of the last three games but have played very well away from Boulder thus far, with a 4-1 record across five games.
The Bears are coming off a nail-biting 8-7 win on the road in Eugene the previous week. They have won their last three contests, after starting the season 1-5, and have a .500 record (3-3) when playing in Berkeley. Cal is one of the four teams (California, Stanford, USC, Arizona State) that earned a win in their first Pac-12 matchup of the year.
It starts with Madeline Pisani and Eve Hritzuk for the Buffaloes, as the two have combined for 49 goals (Pisani - 29, Hritzuk - 20) on the campaign which is the second-most by a pair of teammates in the Pac-12. Hritzuk has scored three goals in three consecutive games.
California boasts three players with 13 or more goals, but have a conference-low 89 goals in nine games played. They also have allowed the third-fewest amount of goals in the Pac-12.
INSIDE THE SERIES
The Buffs have dominated the series between the two programs, with an impressive 12-2 record since 2014. They lost the first two ever meetings with the Bears, but have since ripped off 12 consecutive wins.
Since Cal hosted the 2023 conference tournament, CU netted two wins during the 2023 season up in Berkeley and outscored the Bears 38-17 in those two games.
