Buffs Sixth After Program Best Round At Nanea

October 27, 2025 | Women's Golf

KAILUA KONA, Hawai'i – Colorado continued its momentum in a memorable fall season as the Buffaloes shot a 4-under-par 288 to open the Nanea Invitational Monday at the Nanea Golf Club.

The Buffaloes, ranked No. 44 in the nation in the latest NCAA Scoreboard rankings, recorded their lowest team score in 31 all-time starts on the 6,446-yard, par-73 Nanea course, dating back to the fall of 2013. Colorado is tied for sixth with No. 17 UCLA, a single stroke out of fourth place, shared by No. 10 Texas and California at 5-under.

No. 6 Auburn holds the overall lead at 21-under, four strokes ahead of No. 21 Arizona State. Top-ranked Stanford is in third at 1-under.

"We were a little shaky at the beginning, but we regrouped and played really well the rest of the round," Colorado head coach Madeleine Sheils said. "I'm really proud of our performance."

Colorado was led by junior Carolyn Fuller, who shot a 3-under 70 and is tied for ninth overall with six others, five strokes off the lead and just two off the top four. After a bogey off the first, she tore up the rest of the front nine. Fuller got to 3-under with four birdies on the front, including three in a four-hole stretch between the sixth and ninth.

Even more remarkable, that stretch included birdies on the two toughest holes on the course. Fuller recorded one of only seven birdies on the day at the 419-yard par-4 seventh, which saw 27 players shoot bogey or higher. She equaled that performance on the 334-yard par-4 ninth, a hole that saw just 12 birdies and 19 scores of bogey or higher.

Fuller played even on the back, polishing off her fourth sub-par round of the fall season with her sixth birdie of the day at the 536-yard par-5 18th.

"Just an awesome round by Carolyn, really happy for her getting to 3-under. She's playing some great golf right now," Sheils said.

Redshirt sophomore Vanessa Ngo is tied for 24th after a round of 1-under 72. Ngo was 1-over early in her round, before playing a strong back nine. She had three birdies in a four-hole stretch coming in, including a pair of par-4s at the 14th and 16th.

Sophomore Ellen O'Shaughnessy and freshman Teemapat Pateetin are tied for 32nd after each shooting even-par 73.

O'Shaughnessy had back-to-back birdies at the fourth and fifth to get to 2-under early. She fell back to even with bogeys at the seventh and ninth, but rattled off 11 consecutive pars to end her round.

Pateetin opened with a bogey at the fifth and stayed there through 10 before dropping to 2-over at the 13th. She then climbed back to even with birdies at the 18th and then again at the 342-yard par-4 second.

Junior Maya McVey is tied for 55th at 6-over following a round of 79.

Individually, Auburn's Charlotte Cantonis shot 8-under 65 to claim the first round lead, one stroke better than her teammate Anna Davis and Arizona State's Isla McDonald O'Brien.

Colorado will pair with UCLA, California and San Jose State in Tuesday's second round between the No. 6 and No. 10 tees with a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. MT.
