Buffs, Wildcats Tangle for 15th Straight Season: Five Things to Know

October 31, 2025 | Football

BOULDER — Colorado football returns to Folsom Field on Saturday to take on the Arizona Wildcats (5 p.m. MT). The game highlights the university's annual Homecoming weekend.

Saturday will be the 28th all-time meeting between Colorado and Arizona. The Buffaloes own a 17-10 lead in the series and are 7-6 all-time in Boulder.

Colorado (3-5, 1-4 Big 12) fell at Utah last Saturday, coming out of the bye week. Sophomore offensive lineman Jordan Seaton was named a midseason first-team All-American by Sporting News and was added to the Lombardi Midseason Watch List since the Buffs last hit the field.

Despite an off week against Utah last week, he is still second in the Big 12 and the top-ranked tackle in the league with a pass blocking grade of 89.0. He ranks ninth overall in the FBS and third among tackles. In 271 pass blocking plays, he's allowed one sack and three hurries while committing four penalties, two of which were declined.

The Buffs team pass block grade of 85.7 is second in the Big 12.

Arizona (4-3, 1-3 Big 12) has dropped its last two contests vs then-No. 18 BYU and at Houston. The Wildcats are fresh off their second bye week of the season. QB Noah Fifita completed 24-of-26 passes for a 92.3% completion rate that tied the program's single-game record and stands as the third best by a road QB since 1996 (min. 25 attempts) last time out against the Cougars. Arizona's pass defense remains one of the top units nationwide, having allowed just four pass touchdowns (t-4th nationally). The Wildcats' team passing efficiency defense (93.69, 2nd), passing yards allowed (153.1, 9th), and passes intercepted (9, 18th) marks are all top 20 in FBS.

Five Things to Know
  1. Nation's Toughest Schedule: Colorado has faced the nation's toughest schedule as noted by the NCAA, compiling the record of its opponents. CU's eight opponents to date have compiled a 43-12 record (.782), the only mark above .750 nationally and one of just six over 70%.
  2. Hodge PBUs: Preston Hodge had five pass break-ups at Utah, matching the most of any player in the FBS this season and the second-highest total in CU history behind Ben Kelly's six vs. Oklahoma in 1998. He leads the Big 12 and is seventh in the FBS in passes defended (1.38 per game).
  3. Q for 6: True freshman Quentin Gibson has been close to breaking a kickoff for the distance. He is second in the Big 12 (by a single yard) and third in the FBS in raw kick return yards (483) and he leads the league and is third in the FBS in combined kick return yards (512).
  4. Tawfiq Byard: Despite missing most of the first two games of the season, the CU safety leads the Big 12 and is 14th in the FBS in solo tackles at 5.0 per game, and he's 6th in the Big 12 and in the top 60 nationally at 7.8 tackles per game.
  5. Penalties Cleaned Up: One of the most penalized teams in 2024, Colorado has flipped the script and is ranked in the top 25 nationally in fewest penalties (23rd, 5.0) and penalty yards (25th, 43.9).

Tim Brando and Devin Gardner will be in the booth, and Josh Sims will be on the sideline for FS1.

Voice of the Buffs Mark Johnson and former head coach Gary Barnett will have pregame coverage starting at 3 p.m. MT on the Colorado Radio Network, locally on 850 KOA (AM) and 94.1 FM.
