February 24, 2025 | Women's Golf
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Colorado women's golf had steady performances up and down its lineup as the Buffaloes reside in fourth place after the first two rounds of the Causeway Invitational, played Monday at the Del Paso Country Club.
Colorado shot 1-over-par, 577, on the day, just one stroke behind host and No. 44 ranked UC Davis (Even, 576). Oregon State and Sacramento State distanced themselves considerably from the rest of the field, tying for the lead at 14-under, 562.
The Buffaloes were tied for fifth after the first round, overcoming a slow start to shoot 2-over. Colorado moved up one spot in the standings with a 1-under performance over the second 18 holes.
All six Colorado golfers played within two strokes of each other and find themselves in the top third of the 75-player field. Junior Morgan Miller and sophomore Carolyn Fuller are tied for 12th at even-par 144. Redshirt freshman Vanessa Ngo is tied with two others for 18th one shot back at 1-over 145. Senior Maria Eidhagen Harrouch and freshmen Sydney Givens and Ellen O'Shaughnessy are tied for 21st at 2-over, 146.
O'Shaughnessy, playing as an individual, ended up with Colorado's best single-round of the day shooting 2-under 70 in the morning session. Playing in her first tournament of the Spring season, she was 2-over immediately with a double-bogey on the first hole but played the last 17 holes at 4-under. She remained at 2-over through her first seven holes, but then recorded four birdies in a seven-hole stretch to cement her fourth sub-par round of her young collegiate career.
As for the team race, the Buffaloes got off to a rough start with their scoring golfers dropping to 8-over after just four holes. Colorado settled down however, picking up five strokes through the rest of the round.
The Buffaloes kept that momentum into the second 18 holes. Miller and Ngo both scored 1-under 71 leading Colorado to its fourth under-par round of the season. The Buffaloes took advantage of the course's par 5s with six birdies and an eagle by Eidhagen Harrouch on the 487-yard 13th.
"We did not get off to a good start but competed well the rest of the day," Colorado head coach Madeleine Sheils said. "I'm happy with the improvements we made in eliminating doubles and improving par 5 scoring. Tomorrow we need to be ready to compete as soon as the shotgun goes off.
"There was a lot of solid golf from everyone on the team today. Ellen had a nice morning round which was great to see since it was her first of 2025."
Oregon State's Kyra Ly shot rounds of 65 and 66 to take a five-stroke lead into Tuesday's third round at 13-under. Sacramento State's Sneha Sharan is in second at 8-under after consecutive rounds of 68.
Colorado will pair with Cal Poly and San Francisco in Tuesday's final round, with a shotgun start beginning at 9:30 a.m. MT. The pairings will begin between the 4th and 8th holes.
