Colorado Lacrosse to Skirmish No. 18 Stony Brook and Dartmouth
March 18, 2025 | Lacrosse
The Buffs split the week at home and in another neutral match, this time in Houston, Texas
BOULDER – The Colorado lacrosse team (3-4, 0-0 Big 12) hosts its fifth-straight home game this week against No. 18 Stony Brook (4-2, 1-0 CAA) on Thursday before going on the road for another neutral game on Sunday against Dartmouth (4-3, 0-2 Ivy League). The Buffs' game versus the Seawolves will be at Prentup Field on Mar. 20 at 5 p.m. MT, and they will face the Big Green at TDECU Stadium in Houston, Texas, on Mar. 23 at 11 a.m. MT.
This is the first and only split week of the Buffs, and the fifth and final home game in this five-game stretch. CU faces its sixth ranked opponent in No. 18 Stony Brook for just the third time in program history. The Buffs last skirmished the Seawolves at home in 2019, falling 15-5, and extending Stony Brook's win streak to two (Feb. 22). The Black and Gold are 0-2 against Costal Athletic Association opponents, having only played Stony Brook.
Colorado has only faced Dartmouth one other time, also in 2019, during an NCAA tournament run. The Buffs beat then-No. 18 Dartmouth, 16-13, in Boston, Mass. CU is 3-1 all-time against Ivy League opponents. The last time Colorado played an Ivy League opponent was Harvard in 2022, when the Buffs beat the Crimson, 12-6, in Cambridge, Mass.
Colorado played its first two unranked opponents this past week in Marquette (15-6) and Iona (12-4). Though the Golden Eagles were the first to strike, the Buffs held them to only one goal in the second and third quarters, scoring seven of their own in the second (Mar. 11). CU shut out Iona in the first half, scoring 11 unanswered and three goals in 32 seconds to start the game. The Black and Gold held the Gaels at bay for the rest of the game, coming up with two wins (Mar. 15).

OPENING DRAW (TL;DR)
- CU is led by 12th-year head coach Ann Elliott Whidden, who has led the Buffs to a 125-71 (.638) record as CU's first and only head lacrosse coach. Coach Whidden has led the Buffs to three NCAA tournament appearances.
- After stints in the MPSF and Pac-12, Colorado is playing the 2025 season in the Big 12 Conference for its inaugural lacrosse season. In conference play, the Buffs will go head-to-head with Arizona State and Cincinnati from the Big 12, as well as Florida, UC Davis and San Diego State who are conference affiliates. CU lacrosse is 64-26 (.711) all-time in conference play.
- Fr. G Elena Oh was named Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Week for the third-straight week after the Buffs defeated Marquette and Iona last week (Mar. 11 and 15). Oh leads the Big 12 and is 19th in the NCAA for save percentage with .488. She is third in the Big 12 for goals against average with 9.26, which is good for 19th in the NCAA. She is also fourth in conference and 39th in the NCAA for saves per game (8.20).
- Jr. D Mack Hanlon earned her first conference weekly honor of her career – Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week – after her performances against the Golden Eagles and the Gaels. She picked up six ground balls and caused four turnovers across the two games.
- Jr. D Jess Peluso had a career-high 11 draw controls against Iona. She is the first player to have double-digit draws this season, and she is the first Buff to exceed 10 draws since Aidan Carr in an 11-8 loss to Stanford last season (May 4, 2024). Peluso's 11 draws in a single game ties her for eighth all-time. She also leads the Big 12 in ground balls per game with 2.14, and she is second in the Big 12 and 29th in the NCAA for draw controls per game with 6.29.
- Jr. A Maddie Shoup had a phenomenal game against Iona, scoring two goals in the game's first 32 seconds and getting a hat trick in the first quarter. This hat trick marks her third this season – fifth of her career – and she also had four assists. Shoup is the first player to have exactly four assists since Jen Mistretta in 2020 and the first to have four or more since Ashley Stokes had seven against Arizona State last season (April 12, 2024).

- Gr. A Madeline Pisani became 10th in CU history for career goals last week when she reached 89, surpassing Sam McGee's 88 goals. Pisani is third in the Big 12 for shots per game with 6.71.
- Gr. A Morgan Pence is now tied with Chloe Willard for eighth all-time in career assists after notching four last week. Pence now totals 37 assists in her career.
