Buffs Finish Ninth At Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invite
March 18, 2025 | Women's Golf
AUSTIN, Texas — Colorado women's golf finished in ninth place at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational as play wrapped up with Tuesday's third round at the University of Texas Golf Club.
The Buffaloes slipped one spot from Monday's standings with a season-high 33-over-par third round, finishing at 78-over for the 54-hole event that featured seven top 40 teams.
High scores dominated on the day as winds sustained in the 20 mile per hour range with gusts to the 30s and close to 40 miles per hour. No. 7 ranked, and host Texas won the event at 16-over, 18 strokes better than second place and No. 13 ranked LSU. Texas was the only program in the 14-team field in single digits over par in the third round as the day's average score on the 6,473-yard par-72 UT Golf Club was 79.19, more than 7-over per golfer.
"It's a tough course on a good day and the elements today really exposed our weaknesses as a team," Colorado head coach Madeleine Sheils said. "We need to be able to learn how to play better in these conditions. We have to take this experience, learn from it and get better."
Senior Maria Eidhagen Harrouch had Colorado's low 54-hole score, tying for 16th overall at 13-over, 229. Despite a season-high 84 in the third round, she captured her fourth top 20 finish of the season and led the Buffaloes for the third time in four spring season events.
"Maria is knocking on the door of doing some great things," Sheils said. "Although today didn't really go her way, she showed throughout the tournament of what she's capable of doing out on the course."
Freshman Sydney Givens, playing in her hometown, had Colorado's best round of the day at 3-over, 75, which included birdies at the par-3 12th and par-5 14th. She finished tied for 25th with six others at 16-over, 232, jumping 13 spots in the standings from Monday's second round and just one stroke out of the top 20.
Junior Morgan Miller tied for 57th at 26-over, 242. Freshman Ellen O'Shaughnessy placed 63rd overall at 29-over, 245. Sophomore Carolyn Fuller moved up four spots from Monday, finishing in 67th overall at 33-over, 249 after an 80 in the final round.
Lauren Kim of Texas took individual medalist honors at 1-over, 217, after shooting the day's only under-par round with a 71 on Tuesday. Kyra Van Kan of Tennessee and Cindy Hsu of Texas tied for second, one stroke back at 2-over.
Colorado will return to action in three weeks as co-host of the Chevron Silverado Showdown, April 7-9, at the Silverado Resort and Spa South Course in Napa, Calif.
