Buffs Finish In Eighth At Silverado
April 09, 2025 | Women's Golf
NAPA, Calif. - Colorado women's golf enjoyed its best of three rounds at the 2025 Chevron Silverado Showdown on Wednesday shooting 2-over-par, 290, to finish in eighth place as the 11th edition of tournament completed at the Silverado Resort & Spa South Course.
Â
Colorado finished with a 54-hole score of 18-over, 882, holding its eighth-place spot achieved during the second round. The Buffaloes had a four-stroke improvement from Tuesday's second round and were eight better than Monday's opening round.
Â
No. 10 Northwestern won the team title at 3-under-par, 861. The Wildcats had the best round of the day at 5-under, to hold off runner-up No. 7 Southern California (-2) and No. 37 Iowa State (+3).
Â
Six of the seven teams that finished ahead of the Buffaloes in the final standings are ranked in the nation's top 37. The Buffaloes were able to distance themselves from a pair of top 50 teams in No. 45 San Jose State which placed 9th at 26-over and No. 50 Oregon State which was in 10th at 29-over.
Â
While the finish was admirable, the Buffaloes were so close to the top four. Colorado, beginning between the sixth and ninth with the shotgun start, was 3-over as a team as the scoring golfers made their way through the back nine. The Buffaloes then proceeded to play mistake-free golf over the first through fifth holes, vaulting to 4-under for the round collecting seven birdies with no holes over par.
Â
Unfortunately, Colorado dropped six strokes coming in at the par-4 sixth and par-3 seventh, eliminating a chance to finish in the top four of the final standings. No. 36 California was the fourth-place team at 12-over, six strokes better than the Buffaloes.
Â
"It was great to see the team put together their best round of the event today," Colorado head coach Madeleine Sheils said. "Once again, they showed great composure and competitiveness. We just have to figure out how to get out of the blocks better. We hung in there with some of the top ranked teams in the country, which shows the team that we belong and are trending in the right direction."
Â
Junior Morgan Miller and redshirt freshman Vanessa Ngo recorded Colorado's low 54-hole scores, tying with four others for 11th place at even-par, 216.
Â
Miller had a bit of a rocky start. She was 2-over through five and fell to 4-over through 10 but birdied the par-4 16th and picked up two more birdies down the stretch to finish with a 73 and her fourth top 20 finish of the season.
Â
Ngo, playing as an individual, was hovering around the top five early staying even for the round and 2-under for the tournament through 16 thanks to birdies at a pair of par-4s at the fourth and 12th. She had back-to-back bogeys on the 15th and 16th that put her even for the tournament. Ngo made par on her final hole to finish with a 74 and her second career top 20 finish.
Â
Senior Maria Eidhagen Harrouch and sophomore Francesca Sumcad tied with three others for 31st at 6-over, 222. Eidhagen Harrouch shot an even 72 in Wednesday's final round while Sumcad finished with a 74.
Â
Sophomore Carolyn Fuller and Freshman Sydney Givens tied for 44th at 9-over, 225. Givens matched Eidhagen Harrouch for the team's best round of the day with a 72. Fuller, playing as an individual, shot a 76.
Â
Freshman Ellen O'Shaughnessy tied for 51st at 11-over, 227. After scoring back-to-back 77s, O'Shaughnessy had her best round of the tournament, finishing with a 73 on Wednesday.
Â
Colorado now heads to the Big 12 Conference Women's Golf Championship, April 15-17, at the Houston Oaks Country Club in Hockley, Texas.
