Buffs Back in the Blocks: Track and Field Returns to Big 12 Outdoor Showdown

LAWRENCE, Kan. — The Colorado track and field team returns to the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the first time in 14 years, set for May 15–17 at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, Kansas, hosted by the University of Kansas.

The Buffaloes will send 29 men and 17 women to compete in 17 and 18 events, respectively.

Action begins Thursday, May 15, with the decathlon at 11:30 a.m. CT. Field events open at noon with the hammer throw, while the running events start with the men's 1,500-meter prelims. Day one concludes with the men's 10,000-meter final at 8:40 p.m.

Colorado enters the meet with several nationally ranked events. On the men's side, the decathlon (No. 6), 5,000 meters (No. 12), 1,500 meters (No. 16), and 10,000 meters (No. 14) are all ranked in the top 25. For the women, the high jump (No. 16), 5,000 meters (No. 13), and 400-meter hurdles (No. 11) also hold top-25 rankings.

Individually, Nick Bianco is ranked 15th nationally in the decathlon, Kole Mathison is 22nd in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and Isaiah Givens is 25th in the 1,500 meters. On the women's side, Kati Baeuerle ranks 24th in the 5,000 meters, Jessie Secor 25th in the 5,000 meters, and Riley Ward 23rd in the high jump.
