Colorado Welcomes New Season at Big 12 Media Day

KANSAS CITY – The Colorado's men's basketball team appeared at the Monster Energy Big 12 Media Day ahead of the 2026-27 season at Kansas City's T-Mobile Center on Tuesday. The Buffaloes were represented by Head Coach Tad Boyle, along with sophomore guard Josiah Sanders and senior guard Barrington Hargress.
Entering his 17th season at Colorado, Boyle discussed his excitement around the team and the new recruits. "The one thing about having new players each year, it's really nice to have returning guys like these two [Hargress and Sanders], but the new guys bring an energy. Whether it's the freshmen, whether it's the transfers. We all have them. That really kind of makes you feel alive as a coach," Boyle said.
Boyle recruited seven freshmen and three transfers in the offseason. Notable recruits include freshman guard Alex Dickeson, graduate forward Justin Neely, and sophomore forward Goc Malual.
Dickeson helped Australia finish sixth in the 2025 FIBA World Cup. Also hailing from Australia, Malual competed with the Sidney Kings in Australia's National Basketball League during the 2025-26 season. Neely is coming off a season of averaging a double-double while at UNC-Greensboro, earning him the second spot for rebounds per game in NCAA Division I basketball.
Sanders is entering his second season with the Buffs and appeared in all 33 games. With experience navigating the Big 12 as a freshman, he is looking to take on a larger leadership role as Colorado integrates its young roster. "I'm able to share those [experiences] with the freshmen and share those with the other kids we have. And so for me, taking on that leadership role, just using my voice, trying to be more vocal and trying to make sure all the guys are comfortable because I know what it was like just a year ago," Sanders said.
Hargress was the only other Buffalo to appear in all 33 games last season, starting every contest. He set Colorado's single-season records for both 3-point percentage (48.1%) and assist-to-turnover ratio (3.61). His assist-to-turnover ratio led the Big 12 and ranked 10th nationally. As one of Colorado's most experienced players, Hargress emphasized the importance of understanding his teammates and helping them succeed. "Just taking pride in understanding how my teammates are feeling, what I can do to make them succeed, and also just understanding what I need to succeed," commented Hargress.
UP NEXT: Colorado will open its 2026-27 season against Abilene Christian on Monday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. at the CU Events Center. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and broadcast on 850 AM and 94.1 FM KOA.
