Colorado Outlasts Oklahoma State At Home

February 21, 2026 | Men's Basketball

BOULDER – Colorado outlasted Oklahoma State after pulling away in the second half, winning 83-69 Saturday afternoon at the CU Events Center.

Tad Boyle's Buffs improved to 15-12 overall and 5-9 in the Big 12. The Cowboys fall to 16-11 overall and 4-10 in conference play.

"When you don't play your best, and come out of a Big 12 game with a double-digit win you feel pretty good," Boyle commented. "We've got the ability to play so much better than we played tonight, but you take it, you move on. I am really proud of our guys."

Barrington Hargress and Bangot Dak led the way for Colorado. Hargress scored 16 points and dished out 8 assists. Dak led the team with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Freshman Alon Michaeli scored 12 points off the bench and grabbed five rebounds.

Oklahoma State was led by Parsa Fallah, who ended with 14 points.

"It's tough," Dak said on covering Fallah. "He's a big body. He's someone that works for the ball and he knows that he's the head of the snake of their team, along with Anthony Roy. I kept trying to move my feet to stay in front of him, but he's a good player."

Colorado opened the game and took control, going on a 20-2 run to take a 17-point lead, its largest of the game. But a sloppy end of the first half spiraled into a slow start to the second half, allowing the Cowboys to take the lead with 16 minutes left in the game.

The Buffs responded, getting contributions all across the lineup, going on three different 7-0 runs to retake control of the game. A late defensive surge allowed the Buffs to push the lead to as much as 16 with a couple of minutes left.

Seven different players scored at least seven points, including all five starters.

"I think we have a kind of team that if we have our top six or seven guys that are playing well, on any given night we can beat anybody," Boyle said. "We're pretty dangerous. It takes a whole team to win games, but when we start playing well one through seven, we have a chance to do some good things here down the stretch."

HOW IT HAPPENED
Dak got the Buffs going early, scoring the first five points with a dunk and a 3-pointer at the top of the key, and blocking a shot out of bounds to give Colorado an 8-6 lead four minutes into the game.

Colorado found a rhythm on both sides of the ball. Offensively, the Buffs made eight straight shots, including four 3-pointers. On defense, Colorado held Oklahoma State without a field goal for over five minutes of game time, leading to a 20-2 run for the Buffs and a 25-8 lead with 11:53 left in the first half.

Oklahoma State closed the gap after two 3-pointers and an and-1 in transition. Colorado continued scoring to keep some separation between the Cowboys, leading 36-27 with five minutes left in the opening half.

The hot shooting to start the game continued for the Buffs. After ball movement around the floor, the ball went to Michaeli in the left corner for the seventh 3-pointer of the half, and the sixth different player to make one from deep.

Both teams struggled to score as the first half came to a close, but a banked-in 3-pointer at the buzzer from Oklahoma State sent the game to halftime with Colorado leading 42-34.

The Buffs led for nearly the entire first half, shooting 50 percent from the field while making 7-of-13 3-pointers. On defense, the Buffs forced 10 turnovers and turned that into 13 points.

Oklahoma State outscored Colorado 20-14 on points in the paint and totaled 10 fast-break points to keep the game close.

After the end of the first half, the Cowboys used that momentum early in the second half, opening on a 14-5 run to take a 48-47 lead with 16:07 left in the game, their first lead since leading 6-5 three minutes into the game.

Colorado, needing a spark, found one in Ian Inman. The freshman scored five straight points after the game was tied. He nailed three free throws after being fouled and followed it up with a pull-up mid-range jump shot to take a 58-53 lead with 12 minutes left.

The Buffs slowly began to regrow their lead. Dak had a tip-in layup followed by an and-1 to help get the lead back up to double digits, 68-57 with eight minutes left.

Oklahoma State cut the lead to eight points, but Colorado responded with a 7-0 run, forcing the Cowboys to miss their last six shots to go up 78-63 with 3:26 remaining.

Colorado kept its lead, continuing its defensive pressure to close the game 83-69.
