A Friendship From Spain Makes Its Way To Boulder
BOULDER — Ines Losada doesn't remember her life without Tinons Munar Galmes in it. Or as Losada likes to call her, "Tini."Â
Losada and Munar Galmes have been friends long before they wore Colorado across their chests. The duo started as teammates while representing Spain's national team. For seven years, they spent weeks away from home while navigating adolescence. Throughout their journey, they became a chosen family.
For Losada and Munar Galmes, the dream was always to play Division I college volleyball in the United States. When they met at the age of 13, they could have never predicted they would get to live that dream together.Â
Growing UpÂ
It didn't take long for the pair to seek comfort in each other. Munar Galmes recalls forming a fast friendship with Losada. They just clicked.Â
"It goes from friendship to sisterhood because you go through things that regular friendships don't," Munar Galmes said. "It's another level of trust."Â
After a year of competing together, the two became roommates. While living away from home, many of their first milestones came with the other in the room. From first wins and losses to first relationships, the two found solace in their friendship and familiarity with each other.
"When we started living together and going through hard moments without our parents, having each other made us feel like the family that we didn't have in that moment," Losada said. "Just having a friend with you when you need your mom or your dad or your brother, we were that for each other."
From Spain To The States
As the two embarked on their collegiate adventures, they each took their own paths. Munar Galmes was the first to make the jump across the Atlantic in 2024, beginning her college career at Florida A&M before transferring to Washington State for her second year.Â
Losada was still in Spain, but the two stayed close, and the dream of playing in the U.S. together remained alive for both of them.
When Losada's time came in 2025, she chose Colorado.Â
"I think Boulder is amazing," Losada said. "The program is good, my team is amazing. I'm really lucky to have chosen Colorado."Â
The adjustment wasn't easy at first, however. Losada was not only learning how to play with a new team, she was learning a new language and a new lifestyle.Â
"I learned [English] here," Losada said. "I had to get used to how people speak, the coaches, the games, everything. It was hard the first semester because of that."
The Reunion
Despite different journeys to the United States, both roads led the two friends back to each other in a town tucked beside the Flatirons. Â
Losada was entering her second season with Colorado. Meanwhile, while at Washington State, Munar Galmes was looking for something different out of her collegiate volleyball experience. She wanted a place that felt like home, and she already had Losada recruiting on her behalf at Colorado, informing the coaching staff about the talent that Munar Galmes could bring to the team.Â
Simultaneously, Losada was a sounding board for Munar Galmes, telling her about the opportunity that awaited her in Boulder.Â
"Having one of my closest friends experience [Colorado] before me helped me make the decision so fast. [Losada] was encouraging. She would tell me how the culture here is healthy and how playing with each other is fun," Munar Galmes said. "Having the group of people that we have; it's not only good players, but good people. As soon as I came here, I felt welcome. I couldn't have chosen better."Â
Not only are they back on the same court, but they're back to living together as roommates. Where they face uncertainty with new environments, they find stability in each other. They're always in sync, always speaking the same language — literally.Â
"I know what to tell [Munar Galmes] when she's mad. She knows how to treat me when I'm mad," Losada said. "It's nice to have someone that trusts you 100% right next to you."Â
Job Not FinishedÂ
From childhood to representing Spain to college, Losada and Munar Galmes have a long list of shared accomplishments. But they aren't finished yet.Â
What's next?Â
A run in the NCAA Tournament.
Losada knows how rare it is to share the court with a lifelong friend.
"We don't know if we are going to have this opportunity of playing together again," Losada said.
They plan to take full advantage of their time on the court together. The two Buffs from Spain have won plenty of matches, but Munar Galmes made it clear they have their eyes on a bigger prize: "Our goal is the Final Four."
