
Kipruto Leads Colorado With A Nuttycombe Course Record

Men’s Team Takes Second and Women Place Fifth
VERONA, Wis. — The Colorado cross country team recorded top-5 finishes at the Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday morning, hosted by Wisconsin, as the No. 6 men's and No. 16 women's teams took second and fifth place, respectively.
Meshack Kirputo took first place in the men's championship race and set two records on Nuttycombe's Thomas Zimmer Championship Course with a time of 22 minutes, 30.1 seconds, breaking both the meet and 8K course record.Â
Isaiah Givens and Jake Liebert also posted competitive times, with Givens crossing the finish line in 14th at 22:52.2 and Liebert placing 21st with a time of 23:07.7.Â
The men's team totaled 93 points, trailing only meet champion New Mexico which tallied 59.
"The men were very good today," Head Coach Sean Carlson said. "[Kipruto] as a true 19-year-old freshman winning this meet is incredibly impressive."
Sheylah Kurgat led the women, taking seventh place in the 6K championship event, boasting a time of 19:24.3. Adrianna Buitelaar finished 16th (19:38.8), Abbey Mathison was 21st (19:43.7) and Holly Barker crossed the line in 51st (20:18.7).
"The women ran fantastic," Carlson said. "We're really proud of where they are and where they continue to go."Â
West Virginia claimed the women's title with 66 points followed by Florida (111), Northern Arizona (130), New Mexico (157) and Colorado (166).
UP NEXT: Cross country will head to Stillwater, Okla., for the Big 12 Championships on Saturday, Oct. 31.Â
