Â
Five Things To Know
Â
1 - Walk-Off: Colorado beat Kansas State 27-24 in overtime on Isaac Wilson's 11-yard touchdown pass to Charlie Williams on third-and-9, the Buffs' first win on a game-ending touchdown since Brian Calhoun's run beat Kansas in overtime in 2003. CU never trailed in regulation — it led for 29:03 and was tied for 30:57 — and the only deficit came on Kansas State's field goal to open overtime. It's also the first walk-off passing touchdown since the Miracle at Michigan, Kordell Stewart to Michael Westbrook, in 1994.
Â
2 -Â Run Game Arrives: Colorado rushed for a season-high 222 yards on 43 carries and scored three rushing touchdowns for the second time this season after recording six rushing TDs in its first seven games combined. Richard Young had the first 100-yard game of his CU career (24 carries, 120 yards, two touchdowns), JaQuail Smith scored on a 47-yard run that was Colorado's longest of the season. The fourth quarter was 14 runs and no pass attempts, and CU added three more rushes to open OT before the game-winning pass.
Â
3 -Â ESPN Ocho Times Two: Gideon ESPN Lampron set a Colorado career high for the second straight week with 16 tackles, added a CU-high four tackles for loss and two sacks, and has now gone 13-14-16 in three straight games. He is the first ILB since Nate Landman to record multiple sacks (2020 vs. San Diego State) and 4+ TFL's in a game (2018 vs. Oregon State).
Â
4 - Five Sacks, Six Hurries: Colorado's five sacks were a season high — Lampron two, Yamil Talib two (the first of his Colorado career) and Manny Ezeogu and Toby Anene sharing one — and the Buffs hurried the quarterback six times, including on three straight snaps inside the CU 25 before Kansas State missed a 43-yard field goal in the fourth quarter. Ezeogu had the first double-digit tackle game of his college career (10), Talib a CU-high eight. CU has a sack in all eight games and 22 on the season.
Â
5 -Â 96 Yards: Colorado's go-ahead touchdown drive in the fourth quarter started at the CU 4 and covered 96 yards in 10 plays, the Buffs' longest drive of the season by yardage, ending in Young's 22-yard run. Joseph Williams' 38-yard catch on third-and-6 on the last play of the third quarter was the drive's biggest play; Smith converted a third-and-6 with a 7-yard run. Colorado answered each K-State touchdown with a touchdown of its own on the next possession, and the overtime score answered the Wildcats' field goal.
