Buffaloes Primetime had nice surprise Monday night as CU great and NBA Champion Derrick White made a special guest appearance on the weekly coaches radio show, live from Carelli's of Boulder.
White, back home in Colorado for the NBA All-Star break, was in Boulder to visit his former team, and graciously sat in for a segment with Voice of the Buffaloes Mark Johnson to begin Monday's show. It didn't take a lot of persuasion to get White on the show once head coach Tad Boyle asked him.
"When coach Boyle tells me to do something, I just do it," said White in the opening minutes of the show. "That's just how I was coached as a college student and I'm still doing it here today. But it's always great to be here with you guys."
White is in his ninth NBA season, and fifth in Boston where he helped the Celtics to the 2024 NBA title. He is averaging 17.2 points, 5.6 assists and 4.4 rebounds, leading Boston in assists and steals (1.2 spg), while ranking second in scoring and fourth in rebounding. The Celtics, currently leading the Atlantic Division and second overall in the Eastern Conference at 35-19, five and one-half games behind Detroit.
"It's been a fun year," White said. "I think everyone doubted us going in. So for us to come out there, we're second in the East right now, it's been a lot of fun."
