Buffs Capture Causeway Invitational Title
February 24, 2026 | Women's Golf
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Colorado led wire-to-wire over three rounds to win the 2026 Causeway Invitational title, which wrapped up Tuesday at the Del Paso Country Club.
The No. 47-ranked Buffaloes, considered tournament favorites based on those rankings, took the crown with a 54-hole score of even-par, 864. Colorado held off the two area schools in the event. UC Davis finished second four shots back at 4-over while Sacramento State finished at 5-over.
Colorado, under-par in each of the first two rounds, shot 3-over on Tuesday, good enough to clinch its second tournament win of the season and marking the first time the Buffaloes have multiple wins since 2011-12.
"Winning in golf is always hard, no matter if you're the favorite or not, so I'm really proud of our team for getting it done this week," Colorado head coach Madeleine Sheils said. "It wasn't easy at times; there was a lot of back-and-forth out there today, but they got it done, and a win should never be taken for granted."
Freshman Teemapat Pateetin and sophomore Ellen O'Shaughnessy led the way as they joined a four-way tie for second place at 3-under for the tournament. Pateetin had Colorado's low round of the day, shooting a 1-under, 71, while O'Shaughnessy finished just one shot off that mark with an even-par 72.
"I'm really happy about the team win and I'm proud of everyone for putting in the hard work," Pateetin said. "My driver and wedges were really good out there this week, so I had many birdie opportunities. Staying patient and positive with that was most important to me. Overall, seeing the shape of my game progress in a better direction makes me confident and excited for the rest of the season."
San Francisco's Eva Pett took medalist honors, using a 69 on Tuesday to finish with a four-shot win at 7-under.
Colorado opened the day with a three-stroke lead over UC Davis and a seven-shot advantage over Sacramento State. Those three teams were grouped together on Tuesday, which would lead to a tightly fought final round.
The Buffaloes struggled at the beginning and their lead over the Aggies evaporated in just the first few holes. Colorado never fell back off the lead, but from there it was a back-and-forth battle with UC Davis with both staying right in the even-par range.
Meanwhile, Sacramento State started to get into the mix. The Hornets had the overall best round of the day at 1-over, and at one point late in the round, passed UC Davis for second and played to within a shot of the Buffaloes for the overall lead.
Colorado began to get a sliver of breathing room thanks to O'Shaughnessy and Pateetin, who both played a brilliant back nine. The two combined to shot 3-under, bogey-free, over the final eight holes. Pateetin had back-to-back birdies at the 13th and 14th during that stretch while O'Shaughnessy birdied the 478-yard 16th as the Buffaloes closed out the victory.
"Teem and Ellen were just awesome today," Sheils said. "It was their composure and confidence that really separated them today. They were hitting great shots. Neither of them had a hot putter; they had some other good looks that didn't fall. But to not let that get to remain patient and composed, knowing that every shot matters, was super impressive. Really cool that they finished tied for second and both got the experience of playing for the lead. That's truly invaluable."
Carolyn Fuller shot a 74 in her final round to finish tied for 12th at 3-over, her fourth top 15 finish of the season and fifth top 20 in eight starts.
Maya McVey just missed a top 20 finish, shooting a 74 on Tuesday to finish tied with five others at 7-over. McVey had a team-best 14 pars on the day, including the entire front nine.
Vanessa Ngo tied for 39th overall at 11-over, shooting a 79 on Tuesday.
Playing as individuals, Brenna Higgins finished tied for 33rd at 9-over following a round of 74 on Tuesday. Ananthi Vivek tied for 47th at 14-over, carding a 78 in the final round. For Vivek, it was her first 54-hole collegiate tournament, and first action since playing 36 holes at the season-opening Ram Classic.
Colorado will return to action in two weeks at the GameAbove Invitational at the Rolling Hills Golf Club in Palos Verdes, Calif.
NOTES: It was Colorado's 13th all-time team win and second this season as the Buffaloes took the Ram Classic back in September. The 2011-12 team, the program's first to compete at the NCAA Championship, had three wins … The four-stroke margin of victory ties for the fourth-best … The win improves Colorado's head-to-head season record to 64-35-4 … Colorado dominated the par 5s, with the Buffaloes playing those five holes at 14-under, seven-shots better than UC Davis … Pateetin's T-2nd finish is her best in her young career. O'Shaughnessy's T-2nd matches her career best as she was the runner up at the Southern Colorado Open last spring. The 54-hole score of 213 is the best for both golfers.
