Buffs Soar To Finish Fourth At Silverado

April 08, 2026 | Women's Golf

NAPA, Calif. — Colorado women's golf scored its best team round of the spring season, climbing into fourth place to close out the 12th Chevron Silverado Showdown on Wednesday.

The Buffaloes shot 4-under-par and, in the process, vaulted from eighth to fourth over the course of the final round, ending the 54-hole event at 12-over-par.

No. 2-ranked USC ran away with the team title at 37-under. No. 27 Eastern Michigan was second at 15-under while No. 5 Oregon came in third at 1-over.

"It's always really fun to make a move up the leaderboard on a final round," Colorado head coach Madeleine Sheils said. "I'm so proud of the fight and composure that our team showed from start to finish this week. Whether we would have finished eighth or fourth, they looked composed and in control the entire time. I'm really proud of their effort; it's nice to be able to put up a good showing in our home event."

Colorado's team score was buoyed by junior Carolyn Fuller, who had as close to a perfect day as you can get on any golf course. Fuller shot a 6-under, 66, in the final round, recording six birdies and 12 pars, equating to zero holes of bogey or worse, all while managing a lower leg ailment.

"An incredibly impressive round," Sheils said. "It looked perfect on paper, but what was cool was that she was hitting some great shots, but also had to scramble at times. But she got herself back into position, she putted beautifully, and all that while not feeling 100 percent physically. It speaks to her toughness. She's one of the toughest kids I know and she really set the tone for this team."

Fuller did most of her damage on the Silverado North Course's par 4s, netting five of her six birdies on those holes, including three in a four-hole stretch between the 10th and 13th. Beginning on the sixth with the shotgun start, she was 5-under through 10. Fuller then ran together five straight pars before picking up the sixth birdie on the 345-yard par-4 third.

"Honestly, I wish I could have played the par 5s better today," Fuller said, jokingly. "I had a couple of tap-ins. I took advantage of the holes I knew I was going to have a wedge in my hand and went after it in that respect. It was a really steady round. I didn't do anything super special, just tried to stay patient and keep it steady."

With that effort, Fuller soared 15 spots in the standings, tying for seventh overall at 4-under, her third top 10 finish of the season.

"I'm really happy for the team's performance and was really proud of how everyone fought to the end," Fuller said. "it's really positive momentum that we can carry into the postseason."

The Buffaloes saw success on the individual front as well. Vanessa Ngo shot 1-under, 71, in the final round to finish sixth overall at 5-under. Ngo's round was a little more rocky than Tuesday's near-perfect 68, but it was enough to give her Colorado's low 54-hole score for the first time this season.

She was 1-under through seven holes and early on even held a share of the overall lead. Ngo had a setback with a double bogey at the par-4 eighth but gained a stroke back immediately with a birdie on the ninth. She then used a pair of birdies late in her round, on the 12th and 15th, to secure the best 54-hole score of her career (211).

"(Vanessa) played really nicely for three straight rounds," Sheils said. "She has made so many improvements in every part of her game and it's exciting to see her continue to make strides and is peaking at the right time."

Freshman Teemapat Pateetin pitched in Colorado's third under-par round of the day at 1-under, 71. It was a remarkable comeback for Pateetin, who struggled with an 82 in Monday's first round, cut seven strokes off that with a 75 on Tuesday and saved her best for the final round, as she finished tied for 57th overall at 12-over.

Junior Maya McVey tied for 27th at 4-over following a final round of 78. Ellen O'Shaughnessy tied for 43rd at 9-over, shooting a 74 on Wednesday.

Freshman Ananthi Vivek had her best of three rounds on Wednesday, shooting 1-over 73, tying for 64th overall at 13-over. Freshman Brenna Higgins, playing as an individual, tied for 72nd at 15-over.

USC swept the top three spots on the individual leaderboard. Jasmine Koo took medalist honors at 10-under after a 65 in the final round. Bailey Shoemaker and Catherine Park tied for second, one shot back, at 9-under.

Colorado now turns its attention to the postseason as the Buffaloes will begin to prepare for the 2026 Big 12 Championship in two weeks, April 23-25, at the Dallas Athletic Club.

"This (performance) is just what we needed, and this is why we love hosting this event," Sheils said. "We're so grateful for the foresight that (former head coach) Anne Kelly and the Talley family had in starting this tournament, because we get the opportunity every April to come out and play a truly championship-level test over the course of three days in nice weather. It's an awesome way to prepare for the postseason, and I do feel like we gave ourselves some positive momentum heading into the postseason."

NOTES: Colorado improves its season record to 78-46-4 … The Buffaloes, ranked 49th in the latest Scoreboard ranking released earlier on Wednesday, defeated three higher-ranked teams: No. 39 CSU Fullerton, No. 44 California, and No. 45 Oregon State … The fourth-place finish is Colorado's best at the Silverado Showdown since 2017, when the Buffaloes placed third out of 18 teams … Fuller's 66 is Colorado's best single individual round at the Silverado Showdown … The 66 also matches Colorado's low spring round in team history and first since Malak Bouraeda had a 66 in the second round of the Lamkin Invitational in Southern California on Feb. 8, 2021  … Fuller now has six rounds in the 60s this season, one off Morgan Miller's school record of seven set in 2023-24. Her nine under-par rounds are tied for eighth on CU's single-season list … One of Colorado's main momentum shifts in the final round came on the 363-yard par-4 12th. The Buffaloes' five designated scorers were 5-over on the 12th in the first two rounds. On Wednesday, all five birdied the 12th, and Ngo made it six overall as an individual … Colorado's 4-under final round matches the team's fourth-best overall this season.
