Practice Jerseys Are On, It’s Go Time

Colorado held its first official practice for the 2026-27 season.
BOULDER – New practice gear greeted the Colorado men's basketball team in their locker room on Wednesday, but with that also came a clear message: It's go time.
The Buffaloes opened official practices for the 2026-27 season Wednesday morning at the CU Events Center.
"They have practice gear on so it feels more official," Colorado Head Coach Tad Boyle said. "It may seem like a little thing, but it feels like it's time."
That sense of urgency grows as Wednesday marked the first of 30 practices the Buffaloes will have leading up to their season-opener at home against Abilene Christian on Monday, Nov. 2.
"I'm not that urgent in the summer, but the summer is about teaching, learning and getting reps, and we didn't put anything new today that we hadn't worked on this summer," Boyle said. "Now we'll do that here as practice moves on and when we put stuff in they'll have to process that mentally and come back the next day and be ready to execute. How quickly we can do that will determine how good we'll be in November and December."
One of many items on Boyle's practice to-do list is to prepare 11 newcomers – a mix of young and experienced - for the grind of the season, which will include 18 Big 12 Conference games. Boyle, who begins his 17th season as Colorado's head coach, will lean on his wealth of knowledge to get those players ready, but can also rely on the four core players returning from last season.
Guard Barrington Hargress established himself as one of the better guards in the Big 12 last season plus the Buffaloes have three sophomores looking to make that jump as second-year players in Josiah Sanders, Ian Inman, and Jalin Holland. That group will play a heavy role in getting everyone on the same page as practice ramps up.
"The (being) cohesive part is something we've been trying to hammer in," Sanders said. "Just making sure we're one unit, and we've been working on that a lot throughout the summer; coming together to make sure we have an environment where everyone feels comfortable to be themselves."
