Goerish Adds Another Big 12 Freshman Honor

IRVING, Texas — Colorado goalkeeper Brooke Goerish was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced Wednesday, following her shutout performance in the Buffaloes' conference-opening win at Iowa State.Â
The honor is Goerish's third Big 12 weekly accolade of her debut season. She previously earned Goalkeeper of the Week and shared Freshman of the Week honors on Sept. 9 after posting back-to-back shutouts against New Mexico and Utah State.Â
Goerish played all 90 minutes and stopped all three shots on goal she faced in Colorado's 1-0 victory at Iowa State on Sept. 17. She made two saves in the second half, including a stop on Cassidy Corcione's attempt in the 85th minute to help preserve the Buffaloes' one-goal advantage.Â
The victory gave Colorado its first road win of the season and extended the team's winning streak to four matches, all shutouts. The Buffs improved to 7-1-1 overall and 1-0-0 in Big 12 play.Â
The Blaine, Minn., native has quickly established herself in Colorado's goal, appearing in all nine matches with five starts. She has recorded 22 saves and allowed just two goals in more than 546 minutes, posting a .917 save percentage and a 0.33 goals-against average.Â
Goerish owns three individual shutouts and has contributed to three combined clean sheets, helping Colorado hold six of its nine opponents scoreless. She has started each match during the Buffs' current winning streak, a stretch in which CU has outscored opponents 12-0. Her early success includes a career-high seven saves in the 2-0 win over Utah State.Â
