Defense Holds Steady

Down by six to host Georgia Tech, with under two minutes left on the clock, Colorado quarterback Julian Lewis and the Buffaloes proceeded to make their way down the field looking to reclaim the lead in the remaining seconds.
Sparked by catch and runs by third-year wide receiver Joseph Williams, Lewis led a last-minute drive that saw Colorado native Charlie Williams securing the team's second touchdown of the game and giving the Buffs a last-minute 14-13 win.
But the Yellow Jackets had one more chance.
With 37 seconds remaining in the highly anticipated matchup, tensions were high. Georgia Tech quarterback Alberto Mendoza, the younger brother of Indiana's 2026 Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza, completed two passes and a handoff to bring the Yellow Jackets to the 28-yard line with three seconds left on the clock.
In the final play of the game, the Buffaloes secured the victory when Colorado defensive back Boo Carter successfully blocked the 45-yard field goal attempt. A diving play off the edge solidified the score and gave the visiting team their first win of the season.
"This is our first game so just coming out 1-0 and going back home with a win just feels good to be honest," Carter said.
The Tennessee transfer continued to show strides throughout the night. The four-star defensive back was responsible for the recovery of a Georgia Tech fumble in the first quarter limiting the Yellow Jackets drive to one play.
Defensive pressure from the Buffs was evident throughout the night. Lamont Lester Jr. had three sacks, marking the most sacks from a CU player in their Buff debut since at least 2003.
Randon Fontenette led the team in total tackles, tallying eight by the end of the night, three of which were solo. Gideon ESPN Lampron had five solo tackles, leading the team.
