She logged career season-highs in matches (24) and games played (63). Masumiya also tallied 73 digs, averaging to 1.16 per game, which was well more than the total of her first two seasons combined (45). She accounted for six points as a junior, logging a kill at Texas (9/18), just the third of her career, and recording five aces. Masumiya tallied a season-high eight digs twice, against Cal State-Northridge (9/3) and at home against Kansas (10/9).
As a Sophomore in 2003
Masumiya played in 37 games logging 26 digs, five assists and five service aces. She played the libero position in nine matches, mostly during non-conference action. Masumiya saw her most extended time in CU’s win over Illinois State (9/6) at the Denver Invitational where she played in all five games and recorded a career-high 11 digs. Served an ace on her first touch of the ball in 2003, coming against No. 11 Penn State (8/29).
As a Freshman in 2002
Masumiya played in 20 of 30 matches, starting seven. She hit 1.000 on the season as she had two kills on two attacks. She led the Buffs in service aces once, her only ace on the year against Bowling Green (9/13). She had 19 digs, with her season high of five coming against Oklahoma (10/5). Played in 10 straight matches near the end of the season, and in that span, played in all but two games.
High School
Masumiya graduated from Smoky Hill High School in Aurora, Colo., after lettering in volleyball for one season. She previously attended Littleton High School in Littleton, Colo., and lettered her sophomore and junior seasons. Her junior year at LHS, her team went 21-9 and made the school’s first-ever appearance (since opening in 1902) in the state tournament. Her Smoky Hill team went 29-3 her senior year and won the Colorado State Class 5A Championship, claiming the school’s first-ever volleyball title. At Littleton, she was an honorable mention selection on the All-Continental League balloting as a sophomore. As a junior, she was first-team All-Continental League as a defensive specialist and voted the team’s best defensive player and passer. At SHHS, she was voted Best-of-the-Best defensive specialist in the state by the Rocky Mountain News and second-team All-State defensive specialist by the Aurora Sentinal. The biggest moment of her high school career came in the state semifinals as a senior, where the Buffs rallied from an eight-point deficit against Rampart to claim the game and eventually the state title. Masumiya played club volleyball for the Front Range Volleyball Club as a libero and defensive specialist for four years. Front Range VBC qualified for the Junior Olympics all four years and in 2000-01 her 16’s team was the first-ever in the Rocky Mountain Region to triple qualify.
