AT COLORADO: 2007 (Sr.)?He saw action in 12 games including the Independence Bowl (no starts), as after he suffered a serious shoulder injury in practice following the Oklahoma game that kept him out of the lineup for the Baylor contest. He earned honorable mention All-Big 12 honors from Phil Steele’s College Football at kick returner, as he returned 33 punts for 316 yards on the season, a 9.6 average. But he had two big returns on big stages: in the season opener against Colorado State at Invesco Field at Mile High, his 43-yard return to the Colorado State 34 in the final minutes of the game set up CU’s tying field goal, with the Buffs winning in overtime, and in CU’s 27-24 win over No. 3 Oklahoma, he raced 31 yards to midfield with just under three minutes left, setting up Kevin Eberhart’s game-winning field goal at the gun. He was named the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week for that game, as he had four punt returns for 87 yards against the Sooners (he was also the coaches choice for the similar team award). He was fifth in the Big 12 in punt returns, along with ranking 43rd in the NCAA. He participated in spring practice on a limited basis, as he completed rehabilitation from off-season shoulder surgery. He was cleared for all summer workouts by the end of June and was 100 percent for fall camp.

2006 (Jr.)?He saw action in the final four games of the season (no starts), as he took over the punt return chores late in the season. He returned six in all, averaging 6.8 yards per with a long of 20. Following the season, he has surgery to mend a chronic shoulder problem.

2005 (Soph.)?He saw action in one game, appearing in the fourth quarter against New Mexico State; he had one punt return for minus-2 yards. He had one catch for nine yards in spring full scrimmage action.

2004 (Fr.-RS)?He was not eligible to play as he transferred to CU from Wyoming in time to join the team as a walk-on for preseason camp. He practiced at wide receiver and was a valuable member of the scout team, as he was the Scout Team Offense Award winner for the North Texas and Kansas games.

AT WYOMING (2003, Fr.)?Redshirted at the University of Wyoming; he practiced as a receiver and return specialist as a true freshman.

HIGH SCHOOL?A four-year letterman at running back, he was an all-Colorado honoree, all-state selection and runner-up for the Steinmark Award. He was all-Colorado again his junior year, and earned all-state honors as a sophomore and freshman. His senior season he rushed for 1,800 yards and 22 touchdowns on 190 carries (9.5 average), with his longest run covering 99 yards. He also had 33 catches for 500 yards and five touchdowns, as he averaged about 15 yards per catch. As a punt returner he averaged about 40 yards per return, while he had four touchdowns and a long return of 94 yards; he also had four kickoff returns go for scores. His junior year he ran for 1,750 yards and 26 touchdowns on 171 attempts, as he also reeled in 31 passes for 700 yards (22.5 yard average) and six touchdowns. On punt returns he averaged 42. 5 yards per attempt and had six touchdowns, and he returned four kickoffs for touchdowns. As a sophomore he had 1,100 yards rushing and returned three punts for touchdowns. During his freshman campaign he totaled 800 yards on the ground and had one punt return go for a touchdown. For his career, he racked up 22 touchdowns that came off returns, tied for the most in Colorado prep history. He’s also the all-time state leader in punt returns. Under coach Gary Davis, Broomfield was 9-2 his senior year, 13-1 (state champions) his junior season and 6-4 his sophomore and freshman years. He says the biggest moment in his football career was playing in two state championships while he was in high school. He was also a four-year letterman in basketball, as he was named to the all-state team four times at point guard. He lettered twice in track (sprints) and three times in baseball, where he was a three-time all-state centerfielder.

ACADEMICS?He is majoring in Geography while earning minors in both Education and History at Colorado. He is on schedule to graduate this coming May.

PERSONAL?Born May 17, 1984 in Denver, Colo. Hobbies include playing ping-pong and closely following his two favorite pro teams, the Denver Broncos and Denver Nuggets. A brother plays baseball at the Air Force Academy. He has aspirations to become a teacher and football coach after college.
