Barry on Delepine: ?Although Virginie did not receive a lot of playing time last season, her contribution to our team was a big factor in our winning season. V is strong, a good rebounder and our most solid defender in the center position.?
2000-01 (Junior): Delepine saw action in eight games on the season, mostly coming off the bench in a backup role to Britt Hartshorn and Tera Bjorklund. Saw seven minutes of gametime on two occasions, first in the season opener against Albany, when she scored two points and grabbed two rebounds, and again against Sam Houston State when she had two points, two boards and also dished out two assists. Came off the bench in CU?s win over Iowa State late in the first half to relieve Bjorklund and Hartshorn, who were both in foul trouble. Played strong defense during that stretch on ISU?s Angie Welle. Delepine also got game action in the season finale with Kansas State, and saw her first NCAA tournament action against Siena when she played three minutes. Delepine made the Big 12 Commissioners? Honor Roll following the season.
1999-2000 (Sophomore): Delepine served as capable backup to classmate Hartshorn at the center spot, averaging 2.7 points and 2.4 rebounds per game in an average of 10.9 minutes of gametime. She made her American collegiate debut in opening game at Denver, playing just three minutes with one rebound. Delepine received her true initiation in the loss to Michigan, when she scored seven points and pulled down five boards without a turnover in her first significant minutes of the season, playing 12. A game later she made a mark on the boards when she grabbed 10 against Wright State in the semifinal game of Colorado?s Coors Classic. It would be her best rebounding effort of the season. Delepine would play the bulk of her minutes during the Big 12 season, when she averaged 17 minutes per game over eight games in the heart of the conference schedule. In Colorado?s three-point loss to Oklahoma State, Delepine led the bench with career-highs in points (10), field goals made (3), attempts (6), free throws made (4) and attempted (4). She came into her own late in the season, scoring 59 percent (40 of 68) of her season points in Colorado?s last 12 games. The first-year player saw limited playing time at the Big 12 Tournament, notching just five minutes in CU?s first round game vs. Missouri.
High School/Club: As a member of the CJMBB club team in Bourges, she won three national championship titles from 1995-98 under head coach Hirsch Divier and one national championship with Marguerite de Navarre in 1998 where she recorded a double-double 15 points and 15 rebounds while adding two blocked shots. From 1995 to ?99 she was a member of France?s National team, qualifying in 1997 as a member of the under-18 team and in 1999 as a member of the under-20 squad for the European Championships. Her 1998 team finished 10th in Turkey. During the 1998-99 academic year she attended the University of Reims and played on the 19-5 SJS Reims team that finished second in the French Championship. Delepine was also recruited by Seton Hall University and the French professional league.
Off the Court: Born June 23, 1980 in Amiens, France, Virginie is the daughter of Jean Louis and Corinne Delepine of Loeuilly, and is the youngest member of CU?s senior class, just 18 days behind Eisha Bohman. Delepine has a 19-year-old brother, Yohan. She lists former Buff standout Isabelle Fijalkowski (1994-95) as her favorite professional athlete. Is a big supporter of Colorado?s tennis teams, as both squads boast several players from Europe. Her mother is the secretary for the mayor of Loeuilly, and her father runs a building company.
