Junior (2020): Picked a team captain...Started 11 of 13 matches she played in...Suffered a knee injury late in the season, keeping her out of CU’s final four matches...Recorded her first career assist in CU’s 1-0 win over Weber State (2/20/21)...Graduated with a degree in the spring.
Sophomore (2019): Weiner played in 11 of the Buffs’ 22 matches...She helped CU to two shutout wins over at Washington and the Buffs’ first-round NCAA Tournament win over Northern Colorado...Missed the first half of the season, recovering from injury...Played 307 minutes, including a season-high 52 at Washington.
Redshirt Freshman (2018): Weiner played in all 20 matches for the Buffs, earning 16 starts...She played a bulk of the season on the defensive backline, helping Colorado to eight shutouts...Weiner played in 1,264 minutes, including a season-high 109 in CU’s 1-1 draw at Arizona...She totaled eight shot attempts, landing two on net.
Freshman (2017 AT VIRGINIA): Weiner redshirted as a true freshman at Virginia.
International: Weiner was a member of the U-18 USWNT in 2016 and competed in the International Cup in Ireland. She appeared in a 3-1 win over France’s U-19 team on Oct. 20 as a substitute in the 75th minute.
High School: She was a 2017 graduate of Evergreen High School where she earned four letters in soccer. As a senior, Weiner was named the Colorado Player of the Year and she was also was selected all-state four times, earning first-team honors as a freshman, sophomore and senior, and second-team as a junior. She led Evergreen to the state championship match as a senior and the quarterfinals as a sophomore and junior. She was coached by Peter Jeans. Also an excellent student, she was named academic all-state as a junior and senior and was a member of the National Honor Society, while being a two-time Silver Honor Roll selection. Coming out of high school, she was ranked No. 73 in the IMG Top 150 of the class of 2017.
Club: Weiner played for Colorado Rush under coach Peter May.
In the Classroom: Pursuing her master’s in organizational leadership.
Personal: Sofia Weiner was born on Aug. 9, 1998, in Aspen, Colo., and is the daughter of Bob and Linda. Her father is the chief prosecutor for Jefferson County and her mother is a regional sales rep for One Coast. Her father was also a two-time All-American in track at Pitt and is currently a sponsored runner for Newton Running Company. In 2007, he finished second in the master’s division of the Boston Marathon in 2:31. Her younger sisters Luisa and Gianna both play soccer for Colorado Rush. In her free time, Weiner enjoys skiing, hanging out with her sisters, laying in hammocks, and going to amusement parks and movies. She competed in the Junior Olympics for ski racing and qualified for the Junior Olympics in the 800 meters in track. She also has been active in the community, working with the Thunder Program for individuals with disabilities to play soccer, has worked with homeless shelters in Colorado, and delivered Christmas gifts to underprivileged families.
